    OMG

Michigan and Michigan fans can stop dreaming about their National Title for this year. Even if they go undefeated, they will not be considered for the BCS Championship due to the points system. Applachian is Division 1 AA so this really screws things up, now if they had been Division 1 A, then maybe they could have a chance. This just proves that on any given day, the kids on the field decide the outcome no matter the Powerhouse they may play for. Go Applachian State, looks like Coastal Carolina will have their hands full with them again this year.

HUGE Michigan Fan here - born and raised up there...and I most definitely tip my hat to App St. on this monumental victory. No one is questioning their heart, campus, fans, etc...plus, if you've never been to Ann Arbor, U of M's campus is gorgeous, the team does have heart, and the fact that 100+K fans go to every game shows you their fan base. Bad loss for us, great win for App St. and their fans - I hope they get #3 this year.

GO BLUE - we'll have to show heart and finish the year off stong. (then hopefully get a new coach)

I WAS JUST INFORMED BY THE NAACP....I MEAN THE NCAA & ASSOC' PRISSY....THAT APP ST IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR NATIONAL RANKINGS IN DIV 1

NOW HOW STUPID IS THAT? IF I VOTE THEM IN AT #1 OR 2 OR EVEN 3....THEN THAT WILL BE THEIR RANKING

THIS MUST BE A CLAUSE INSERTED IN YET ANOTHER STUPID PARAGRAPH OF THE NCAA AND THE ASSOCIATED PRESS WHICH SHOWS JUST HOW RIDICULOUS THE RATING SYSTEM IS...........OR BETTER YET...SHOWS JUST HOW IGNORANT THE VOTING PRESS IS

Off topic a bit (congrats to Appy - amazing!), but as soon as I read the words "Boone, NC" I had a big time flashback. About forty years ago I was a salesman for a specialty metal company and one of my customers, IRC, was located in Boone. The buyer, whose name I regrettably cannot recall at the moment and I discovered that we both loved fly fishing for trout during our phone conversations. He surprised me by telling me that there was some great native trout fishing in the forests outside of Boone and that surprised me because being geographically impaired, I had thought of North Carolina as mostly flatlands and swamps, with some pretty beaches and good saltwater fishing. My buyer buddy told me to bring my waders, fly rod and flies if I ever came down.

Naturally, I immediately found a reason why I had to head down there for an "important meeting with the customer" and I was on my way down in no time. I forgot where I had to fly into and then rent a car for a pretty substantial ride to Boone. I was blown away as I drove up and through The Smokies (right?). The country was awesome. And wild. I had a black bear and her cubs cross the road in front of me and there were deer everywhere.

I got to Boone, checked into a little hotel there and met with my buyer buddy for a late day meeting and then dinner at an awesome little local restaurant where our business having been wrapped up, we got to the important stuff - talking trout and flies and that sort of stuff. Soon we were joined by the buyer's main fishing buddy, the Sheriff, or Chief of Police, or whatever he was. He was the Head Cop. He was a neat guy and was going to join us for the two days of fishing that we had planned (hey, this was a BIG customer, don'tchaknow? I HAD TO do whatever he wanted. No choice, ya know?)

At 0'dark thirty the next morning we took off in the Sheriff's four wheel drive van/jeep/I dunno what vehicle that looked like something Mel Gibson should have been driving in one of those end-of-the-world movies. Off and up into the mountains we went. Dirt country roads turned into what looked like old logging roads, then what I can only describe as game trails. The Sheriff turned us around and we backed in the last half mile or so. "No way we could turn around down there" was the explanation and I sure had to agree.

I could hear a stream running down below us a bit as we donned our waders, put our fly rods together and got ready to head to the stream. "Keep an eye out for snakes" both said as we started down the little game trail. "Standard warning", I thought to myself. When we arrived at this beautiful trout stream my two partners split up, one going upstream and the other going down. They said that they were each going to go up about a mile and fish back towards me.

    "Good luck", they said.

"Watch out for snakes", they said.

Dumb Yankee thinks, "Man, these guys really have a snake thing."

I wade out in the stream a little, pick a flat rock to sit on, lay my fly rod down on it and start picking a fly out of my box.

I bump my fly rod a little and "Snip", it seems to make a kinda smacking sound. Hmm. I move it a little and it goes "snip" again. This time I look at the tip end of the rod to see if it was hanging up on something or what and guess what was all coiled up and flicking its tongue out at it?

Thaat's right...a copperhead! A big azzed one, too! He was seven feet away, but I yelled out "Jeepers", or something like that and jumped up. The rod moved when I did that and this time I saw the snake strike it. Little did I know that he was only the first of several I saw that day.

From then on you can bet your bottom dollar that I was on the lookout for snakes and not only that, I saw several more, copperheads and rattlers both, along the three or four streams that we fished on those days.

Found out that night that at the time, North Carolina led the country in poisonous snake bites.

Boone is a beautiful place and it used to have great wild mountain fly fishing for some of the prettiest trout I have ever seen.

But jeepers, if you go into those woods, y'all keep an eye out for snakes, ya hear?

Thanks for triggering a great memory. Watch out for that football team from that purty little place...

And keep an eye out for snakes!

    Jeepers!

Hey BOX they are ranked #1 in the NCAA Div 1AA poll or now named the Football Championship Series (FCS) where the real champion is decided on the field through a playoff systems not by a bunch of writers and computers like Div 1
Capt I have many memories of Boone, NC especially at the fraternity house but we will keep this civilized here hahahaha oh the memories, what I would do to have those days back in Boone!! They said 15 fire trucks and 10k fans brought them in town and met them at the stadium. AWESOME!!!!
