10/8-10/10 MHC Report
Well it has been a while since I could really get away and try to put some meat in the boat. Left central NC Wednesday to go down with some friends to try our hand at different species. Got down late on Wednesday and headed out for an afternoon of getting away from it all. Limit on trout in about 2 hours, they were scattered for trout but plenty around in spots.
Got up on Thursday want to head out a little bit for some bottom dwellers and it seemed at first the weather was not going to cooperate. Waited till lunch on another buddy and headed out. Of course we were greeted by choppy seas but pushed on out to a little hole that absolutely showed no fish on the screen. I have had luck here before but where has the fish gone. Decided to ease around and drop a jig. First cast a trigger. That's what were after right there! Seas ended up settling down a bit to make it a little more comfortable to fish. Ended up with a mixed bag of trigger fish, grouper, Red Snapper and all the AJ you want, without even showing life on the bottom, go figure. A good day on the water that started late and ended with meat in the box. Offshore on Friday and the Wahoo bite was slow. Did end up with two nice hoos and a stinky. Decided to give my buddies a golf lesson on Saturday morning and wait out the wind a little. Headed out late to try to hook up with a drum. Ended up catching all the stingrays you care to cut off the hook but did manage to bring home two very nice drum that were right on the limit mark. Headed out early Sunday to fish before leaving the good life and going back to civilization. Tried to head out a little but it was just too nasty to be comfortable to fish. Came in near shore and put out the live bait lines. Action was quick with a knockdown within minutes. Ended up losing the first king but landed the next three. Good size for kings. Well, as promised all good things must come to an end so we headed to the house to head home. In all it was not fast action this past week except for the kings. Bottom fishing was good not great, Wahoo was SLOWWWWWWW, and drum fishing was entertaining. In all it was a great time with great friends and a fish fry in a few days. The best thing was bringing home the kings so my two sons and my friend’s daughter could see and take pictures with them. Of all the fish we boated nothing can come close to returning home and catching the arms of our children. It want be long before they start setting out the spread and bringing in the meat themselves. Hey, we may be looking at a future junior and lady angler first place winners. Better to train them up right when their young. Grace to all!!! |
