THE 1 BOAT 1 DAY TOURNAMENT
THIS COMMERCIAL BFT THING.
......HECK IT IS WORSE THAN BLUEMARLIN TOURNAMENTS AT TIMES...........ONE CAN CRUISE AROUND FOR DAYS AND NOT GET A NBIBBLE....YOU CAN BE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK AND WATCH YOUR PEERS FIGHT FISH NEXT TO YA....ONLY PROBLEM IS YOU ARE NOT DOING THE SAME.....YOU ARE PULLING BASICALLY THE SAME PROGRAM BUT ..................I MEAN IT SEEMS LIKE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO OUTRIGHT FREAKING WIN AT LEAST 4 OUT OF 6 OF YOUR PERSONAL GIANT BLUEFIN TOURNAMENTS EACH WEEK..........RIGHT? IN COMMERCIAL BLUEFINN'....YOU ARE THE ONLY BOAT ENTERED IN YOUR OWN PERSONAL TOURNAMENT....YOU COMPETE AGAINST NO ONE BUT YOURSELF......IF YOU KILL A 73" BFT OR GREATER ...YOU WIN....................CATCH 3 OF THEM IN ONE DAY AND YOUR WIN THE ENTIRE DAILY CALCUTTA.....SIMPLE RIGHT? WELL TODAY WE CAUGHT THE SMALLEST BLUEFIN I EVER EVER CAUGHT BY ME AT LEAST....MAYBE..................M A Y B E ....IT WOULD SCALE OUT @ 60 LBS ...................THE TAG BOAT SAID IT WAS TOO SMALL FOR THEM TO TAG SO WE CAREFULLY DECKED HIM VIA THE DOOR AND REMOVED THE HOOK..........AND MATT GENTLY SLID HIM BACK AND INTO THE TURBULENT NOR'EASTERJUST ONE FAT TUNA A DAY AND ALL'S WELL............AND YOU WIN...................BUT SOME DAYS IT'S NO RUNS...NO DRIPS....NO CHECK.

I'm right with you my old friend. I have been in the middle of more more hot bites ( and not gotten bit ) this year, than any previous year. I have switched to "the plan", which is not easy in a small boat. My leaders are right, my baits and lures are right. I just don't know. Friday I transfer my license and someone else can figure it out.
I will pull back on the throttles when I hit 72 or 73 degrees on my next trip, and not until then. I'm going meat fishing. |

I here ya Marty. I choose not to fish the last couple of days. Had my share of crappy days didn't need another one. I'll take the two Slobs I caught this week and keep my fingers crossed for a decent price. All in All it's been a pretty good year for me, made alot of new friends and caught up with some old ones I guess that why I love this SH&T. 18 more day and another season under our belts, next up YFT and WAHOO!!!!! can't wait. Small Fry
Marty,
A small Bluefin is much better and no Bluefin. Thanks again to You, Mike and Ms. T for the ride today. Here is a shot of the little BF being set free to pull on someones hook another day after he has grown up. |

Commercial vs. Recreational %
Of the boats that actively participate in this fishery, what precentage are commercial bluefinning and what precent are recreational?
I think the lines may be blurred as some recreational folks are "weekend warriors with a premit". We'll call them recreational. I don't know about much about the MHC fishery, but on the videos that 'Box and folks have put up on this site it appears to be a ton of boats in a very small area. |

BOX,
I feel for ya brother so I made the call!!! The fish gods said they were taking the weekend off to watch football and the bite will be back on ya the next day after the blow. I also used up some favors and put in the request for a double slob hook up. Rest up and get ready because the rods will be bendin and the bite will be on. Hook em up tight. Todd/Madchark |

I don't know how you guys do it!
Bluefin fishing (or any meaningful fish for that matter) can be so frustrating at times, even when your only pressure is trying to have fun, like in my case. I've never commercial fished, but I can only imagine the stress of trying to make a living in such an unpredictable arena. It takes big balls to try, and bigger ones to succeed.
Keep pluggin' at it. You've won a couple 1 day tournies recently and I bet there are a few more in store for you before the season closes out on ya.
