BIG NEWS: Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament

Last year was a tough year for Capt Tred - With his spinal stroke, he was unable to be in Beaufort for the Tournament.

This year Tred is back in force - and VERSUS will be will be filming an episode during the tournament. The camera crew will be in the tent filming the Captain's meeting, then one of the cameramen will follow Tred on the water fishing in the tournament. Of course Tred will be on the dock for the Weigh-in and will be there to initiate the kids who catch their first billfish during the tournament.

This is great exposure for the Boys and Girls Club on a national level - and who know - some of us may just get that 15 minutes of fame on TV.

Even if you aren't fishing the tournament, come on by - This is always a fun tournament and there are some great items being auctioned off

The Best of Tred Barta

When the 7th Annual Barta Billfish Tournament begins on July 15, eventually, the world will be able to watch. Versus, the network that hosts Tred’s television show, The Best & Worst of Tred Barta, will be in attendance capturing every moment of this year’s tournament on film. “I’ve been hoping for this since day one and to have it become a reality is really huge,” said Tred Barta upon announcing that three film crews will be in Beaufort for his tournament. “I plan to fish on a boat, one that is big enough to hold me and the crew, and the cameras will be there to capture the essence of fishing and celebrating this event with me,” Barta added.

Already, this installment of the Barta tournament is surpassing last year’s number of boats entered. And, tournament officials expect big things of this year and especially since Versus, who is a signature tournament sponsor, will be in attendance.

With the event soon approaching, it is our hope that by adding the unique opportunity for participants and anglers to be filmed and eventually aired on national television will inspire those on the fence, to come and fish or at least come and celebrate the festive environment that occurs annually in Beaufort.

For this annual homage to Beaufort, Tred will return and his energy is greatly anticipated. And, for this tournament with the presence of Versus, participants will have the chance to be viewed by all who follow Tred’s television show. “To be able to show the world what we are all about and that we are here for morals and honesty and to give back to something so special, the Boys & Girls Club, is really special. Having Versus commit to filming my show is going to make this year one to remember for a long-time,” says Barta.
