CANYON VIEW PARK POND: (January 03) The pond is closed for the winter.

DEER CREEK RESERVOIR: (January 03) There is still mostly open water on the reservoir. Most anglers report fair to good fishing for rainbow trout. Boat anglers report good success and shoreline anglers report fair to good success. Try using flashy spinners and other lures. The boat ramps are still open but only primitive campsites are available. The fish cleaning station is closed.

DIAMOND FORK RIVER: (January 03) Angler Tom Ogden reports fishing from 12:00 to 3:00 on December 29 and catching five cutthroats and seven browns. The fish size ranged from five-inch cutthroats to 13-inch browns. He used a floating line with a size 12 bead head Montana and a size 12 bead head hare's ear. He fished upstream from the gate to the road. Because of lack of snow, the gate is still open. The water visibility was about two feet and the flow was 50 cfs.

GRANTSVILLE RESERVOIR: (January 03) There is no report this week.

HIGHLAND GLEN PARK: (January 03) Anglers report slow success for trout. Remember there is a two-fish limit at community fishing waters.

JORDANELLE RESERVOIR: (January 03) State Park employee Natalie reports open water over most of the reservoir. The Hailstone boat ramps are still open. Use a 4-wheel drive vehicle if launching. The fishing success is considered fair.

KIDNEY POND: (January 03) There is no report this week.

LITTLE DELL RESERVOIR: (January 03) The reservoir is still mostly open water. Anglers report some success catching cutthroat trout by using various spinner patterns. Remember, artificial flies and lures only at this reservoir. All cutthroat trout must be immediately released.

MANILA CREEK POND: (January 03) There is no report this week.

MIDAS POND: (January 03) There is no report this week.

MILL HOLLOW RESERVOIR: (January 03) The gate is closed and winter conditions are restricting access to the reservoir.

NINE MILE RESERVOIR: (January 03) Anglers report five or more inches of ice on most of the reservoir; however, ice conditions can change so use extreme caution. Try using bait-tipped jigs.

PALISADE RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (January 03) One angler reports four or more inches of ice on one part of the reservoir. There is still some open water on other portions of the reservoir. The angler reported fair success for trout with a bait-tipped jig.

PAYSON LAKE: (January 03) The gate is closed at Maple Dell for the winter.

PROVO RIVER, LOWER: (January 03) Try using flies size 20 or smaller. The best patterns are blue-winged olives, midges or glo-bugs. Worms are working fairly well in the bait-allowed stretches. Stretches of this river have special regulations. Please read the Utah Fishing Guidebook for details.

PROVO RIVER, MIDDLE: (January 03) Fishing success is good. Try using blue-winged olive pattern, glo-bugs or midge pattern in size 20 or smaller. Bait is allowed above Charleston Bridge to the Legacy Bridge. The harvest of legal-sized fish is encouraged. Please read the Utah Fishing Guidebook for details on special regulations for this river.

SALEM POND: (January 03) Fishing on December 29 was slow. Very few anglers were on the pond. Try using PowerBait or worms.

SETTLEMENT CANYON RESERVOIR: (January 03) There is no report this week.

SILVER LAKE: (January 03) There are no reports on ice conditions.

SPANISH OAKS RESERVOIR: (January 03) The reservoir is closed until next spring.

SPRING LAKE: (January 03) Anglers report fair to good fishing for trout using traditional baits and lures in open water. Catfish success is slow. Stay off the ice.

STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR: (January 03) Anglers report one to eight inches of ice on some areas of the reservoir; however, there is still some open water in areas. Use extreme caution and check the thickness before venturing onto the ice. Ice anglers report good success using white tube jigs. Several anglers report catching limits of rainbows. The roads to the Soldier Creek Dam and Strawberry marina are icy and slippery, so use a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Strawberry Reservoir has special regulations. Make sure you read the Utah Fishing Guidebook for details. For help differentiating the Bear Lake cutthroat trout and rainbow trout, download the Strawberry Reservoir brochure.

THISTLE CREEK: (January 03) Angler Tom Ogden reports fishing on December 29 from 3:15 until 4:00 and catching one small brown. The water visibility was only about one foot. There were a couple of other fishermen on the stream.

TIBBLE FORK RESERVOIR: (January 03) Fishing for brown trout and rainbow trout is good using bait-tipped jigs. One angler reports over four inches of ice; however, this reservoir is known for having soft spots, so use extreme caution.

UTAH LAKE: (January 03) Ice conditions fluctuate, so use extreme caution. Some areas offer thicker ice. Anglers report fair to good success for white bass and blue gill using bait-tipped jigs. The American Fork boat harbor has been a popular spot for catching white bass. Lindon and the state park have been slow. Please use extreme caution on all parts of Utah Lake.

VERNON RESERVOIR: (January 03) There is no report this week.

VIVIAN PARK POND: (January 03) Anglers report slow fishing and unsafe ice. Stay off the ice.

WILLOW POND: (January 03) Fishing is fair to good at Willow Lake and other Salt Lake community ponds. Try using traditional baits and lures. Use extreme caution because the ice is not safe.

YUBA RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (January 03) There's a little ice in some areas of the reservoir, but it's still considered unsafe. For current ice conditions, call the state park at 435-758-2611.

CANYON VIEW PARK POND: (January 04) The pond is closed for the winter.

DEER CREEK RESERVOIR: (January 04) On January 4, considerable sheets of very thin ice were seen throughout the lake. There is quite a bit of open water as well. Most anglers report fair fishing for rainbow trout. Boat launching is still possible and boat and float tube anglers report good fishing. Shoreline anglers report fair to good fishing. Officer Orin Neal reports that the most consistent place over the last few weeks has been the main boat launch area at Deer Creek. Try using flashy spinners and other lures. Only primitive campsites are available. The fish cleaning station is closed.

DIAMOND FORK RIVER: (January 04) Angler Tom Ogden reports fishing from 12:00 to 3:00 on December 29 and catching five cutthroats and seven browns.

GRANTSVILLE RESERVOIR: (January 04) There is no report this week.

HIGHLAND GLEN PARK: (January 04) Anglers report slow success for trout. Remember there is a two-fish limit at community fishing waters.

JORDANELLE RESERVOIR: (January 04) Officer Orin Neal reports the Rock Cliff bay at Jordanelle has ice a little past the boat launch area, but it doesn't look very thick. Very few anglers have been out fishing. Those who have fished Jordanelle recently have not caught anything worth mentioning.

KIDNEY POND: (January 04) There is no report this week.

MIDAS POND: (January 04) There is no report this week.

MILL HOLLOW RESERVOIR: (January 04) The gate is closed and winter conditions are restricting access to the reservoir.

NINE MILE RESERVOIR: (January 04) Officer Casey Mickelson reports that fishing is fair. There's been a lot of fishing pressure during holidays. Try using dead minnows or mealworms. There is still some open water in spots.

PALISADE RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (January 04) Officer Casey Mickelson reports that fishing is fair to good with traditional baits and lures. There are many rainbows, but not a lot of tiger trout. There is still some open water in spots.

PAYSON LAKE: (January 04) Officer Shawn Bagley reports that the gate is closed in the canyon at Maple Dell for the winter.

PROVO RIVER, LOWER: (January 04) The fishing is excellent with the recent warm weather. Anglers report fair to good success with size 20 or smaller nymphs/dry flies of various patterns. Experiment until you find the right pattern. Please read the Utah Fishing Guidebook for special regulations.

PROVO RIVER, MIDDLE: (January 04) Fishing success is fair to good using patterns such as blue-winged olive, glo-bugs or midge size 20 or smaller. Bait is allowed above Charleston Bridge to the Legacy Bridge. The harvest of legal-sized fish is encouraged. Please read the Utah Fishing Guidebook for special regulations on this river.

SALEM POND: (January 04) Officer Shawn Bagley reports slow to fair fishing and light fishing pressure.

SETTLEMENT CANYON RESERVOIR: (January 04) There is no report this week.

SILVER LAKE: (January 04) There is no report on ice conditions.

SPANISH OAKS RESERVOIR: (January 04) The reservoir is closed until next spring.

SPRING LAKE: (January 04) Officer Shawn Bagley reports that anglers are having good success for trout in the open water. Try using traditional baits and lures.

STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR: (January 04) Officer Hollie Riddle reports that fishing was good over the weekend. There were lots of rainbows being caught. There is more fishable ice than normal for those without snowmobiles. You can make it all the way to Haws Point in a 4-wheel drive vehicle due to lack of snow; however, the roads to the Soldier Creek Dam and Strawberry marina are icy and slippery. Strawberry Project Leader Alan Ward adds that they have had mixed reports of success, but most have been good. Ice is being reported at five to ten inches in most areas. There is very little, if any, snow on the ice so it's slick. There are a lot of pressure ridges developing to watch out for. Special regulations at Strawberry include limit four trout or kokanee salmon in the aggregate. No more than two may be cutthroat trout under 15 inches, and no more than one may be a cutthroat trout over 22 inches. All cutthroat trout from 15 to 22 inches must be immediately released. Trout and salmon may not be filleted, and the heads or tails may not be removed in the field or in transit. Check the Utah Fishing Guidebook for details. For help differentiating Bear Lake cutthroat trout and rainbow trout, check out this web page brochure at http://wildlife.utah.gov/strawberry/...y_brochure.pdf.

THISTLE CREEK: (January 04) Angler Tom Ogden reported last week that he fished Thistle Creek and caught one small brown. The visibility in the water was only about one foot. He only saw a couple of other fishermen on the stream.

TIBBLE FORK RESERVOIR: (January 04) One angler reports ice fishing on Tibble Fork Reservoir; however, this reservoir is known for having soft spots, so use extreme caution.

UTAH LAKE: (January 04) Officer Chris Rhea reports that anglers have had some success with white bass and other panfish in the American Fork boat harbor area. One angler reports three to four inches of ice, so please use extreme caution on Utah Lake. DWR Aquatics Manager Mike Slater adds that the midday bite is pretty slow ice fishing at Lincoln Point.

VERNON RESERVOIR: (January 04) There is no report this week.

VIVIAN PARK POND: (January 04) Anglers report slow fishing and unsafe ice. Stay off the ice.

WILLOW POND: (January 03) Fishing is fair to good at Willow Lake and other Salt Lake community ponds. Try using traditional baits and lures. Use extreme caution because the ice is not safe.

YUBA RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (January 04) Officer Jay Topham reports a little ice in the Painted Rocks area. There is open water on the west end. The ice may still be unsafe. Call the state park at 435-758-2611 for updates on ice conditions.

Please e-mail your fishing reports on Southern Region waters to MichaelHadley@utah.gov.

ATTENTION: Quagga and zebra mussels are a major threat to Utah waterways. Watch this video to learn more about these destructive mussels and how to decontaminate your boat.

BAKER RESERVOIR: (January 06) There isn't any ice. Winter is a good time to target brown trout with minnow-imitating lures and flies.

BARKER RESERVOIRS (NORTH CREEK LAKES): (January 06) Most lakes on Boulder Mountain are closed to fishing until April 21. Barker and Lower Barker reservoirs are open year round.

BEAVER MOUNTAIN LAKES: (January 06) Conservation Officer Brent Farnsworth reports that access to the Beaver Mountain lakes is limited this time of year. Because there hasn't been much snow, most lakes are still accessible to four-wheel drive vehicles. Near the higher lakes, drifting snow makes driving conditions more difficult. All lakes are frozen, and anglers have been out on the ice. Kent's Lake and Puffer Lake are receiving the most pressure. There haven't been any recent reports of success.

BEAVER RIVER, LOWER: (January 06) Conservation Officer Brent Farnsworth reports that water is not being released from Minersville Reservoir, so flows are low. Use caution when approaching the stream so you don't spook the fish. Drifting a nightcrawler through the current usually produces trout this time of year. Surface ice could make fishing difficult at any time.

BEAVER RIVER, UPPER: (January 06) Conservation Officer Brent Farnsworth reports that flows are low and clear. There is a lot of anchor ice, especially in the upper stretches. The lower stretches (near the mouth of Beaver Canyon) have some fishable areas. The fish are wary, so use stealth when approaching the stream.

BOULDER MOUNTAIN: (January 06) Most lakes on Boulder Mountain are closed to fishing until April 21. Check the current Utah Fishing Guidebook to see which lakes are open year round. All lakes now have safe ice, but they might be difficult to access because of snow.

CLEAR CREEK: (January 06) Summer storms caused major flooding in Clear Creek and its tributaries this year. Trout appear to be absent from most of the drainage.

CORN CREEK: (January 06) Winter fishing is difficult due to ice and snow.

DUCK CREEK POND / ASPEN MIRROR LAKE: (January 06) Duck Creek Pond, Duck Creek and Aspen Mirror Lake are closed to fishing until April 21.

EAST FORK SEVIER RIVER IN KINGSTON CANYON: (January 06) Mild weather and increased water releases from Otter Creek Reservoir are keeping the river ice-free. Although the flow has increased, the river is still fishable. Focus your fishing efforts on areas with a little gradient and riffle-pool sequences. Slow-moving runs have less oxygen in the winter and fewer fish. The Circle Valley Anglers fly shop recommends egg patterns, small midges and large streamers.

EAST FORK SEVIER RIVER, BLACK CANYON: (January 06) Spring inflow keeps Black Canyon mostly ice-free in the winter. The river has been a little murky, so the Circle Valley Anglers fly shop recommends larger streamer patterns. The key to success is to quickly get the fly deep in the current.

EAST FORK SEVIER RIVER, UPPER: (January 06) There isn't much winter fishing pressure due to poor access.

ENTERPRISE RESERVOIR, UPPER: (January 06) Access is excellent, and there's very little snow in the area. Most of the reservoir has six or seven inches of ice, but there is a little open water in one of the western arms. Mild temperatures have produced soft edges and left some standing water on top of the ice. Please use caution on the ice.

FISH LAKE: (January 06) Seven inches of ice cover much of the southern end of the lake, almost up to the lodge. Calm nights should help cap the rest of the lake, but use caution. There is little snow in the area, so access is good. Contact the Fish Lake Lodge (435–638-1000) for up-to-date road and ice conditions. Fishing success has varied from slow to good, depending on the day and technique. For perch and small trout, fish in 15–25 feet of water with jigs and ice flies tipped with mealworms, nightcrawlers or perch meat. Move out to 35–40 feet to target larger splake and rainbows. You can also find these fish suspended at the same depth over deep water. Small lake trout—and the occasional large fish—can be can found anywhere from 50 to 90 feet. For lake trout, use larger jigs tipped with pieces of perch, chub or sucker meat and add a healthy dose of patience. A fish finder can be invaluable in finding lake trout.

FORSYTH RESERVOIR: (January 06) There is little snow, so access is good. Ice thickness ranges from six to 10 inches. When you're targeting tigers and splake through the ice, tip your jigs with cut bait (sucker or chub meat) or pieces of minnows. Perch fishing could be fair to good this year. Remember that it is illegal to use perch as bait at Forsyth.

FREMONT RIVER: (January 06) The road above Mill Meadow Reservoir is not plowed during the winter.

GUNLOCK RESERVOIR: (January 06) The boat ramp is closed until March. Visit www.stateparks.utah.gov for the most current boat ramp schedule.

GUNNISON BEND RESERVOIR: (January 06) There haven't been any recent reports. The reservoir is unlikely to have safe ice with the recent mild weather.

IRON COUNTY COMMUNITY FISHERIES: (January 06) Leigh Hill Reservoir is closed for the winter.

JOHNSON RESERVOIR: (January 06) Because of poor access, there isn't much winter fishing opportunity.

KOLOB RESERVOIR: (January 06) Kolob is closed to bait fishing until May 19. According to recent reports, there is not much snow and you can reach the reservoir in a four-wheel-drive vehicle. There is generally very little ice-fishing pressure due to poor access. The trout limit is two fish, and you must immediately release all trout between 15 and 22 inches.

KOOSHAREM RESERVOIR: (January 06) The ice is 10 to 12 inches thick. There has been a lot more fishing pressure this ice season than we normally see, and fishing success really slowed down last weekend. Move away from the areas that have seen the most pressure. To target cutthroat, tip your jigs with cut bait (sucker or chub meat) or pieces of minnows.

LOWER BOWNS RESERVOIR: (January 06) There isn't much winter fishing pressure due to poor access.

MAMMOTH CREEK: (January 06) The Circle Valley Anglers fly shop reports fair success with disco midge, prince nymph and large leech patterns.

MILL MEADOW RESERVOIR: (January 06) There is little snow, so access is good. The ice is 6 to 10 inches thick. Fishing is fair for perch and trout. Some anglers have found better success by walking across to the west shore. The reservoir was not drained this year, as planned, so the ice fishing will again be good.

MINERSVILLE RESERVOIR: (January 06) Conservation Officer Brent Farnsworth reports that the reservoir is only about four feet below full pool. There is ice cover on the entire lake, but many places are thin and weak. There have been a few ice anglers on the thickest ice. The ice is about four inches in the thickest spots. The lake is rising daily, so the ice around the shoreline is especially thin. Success has been slow for the few anglers who ventured onto the ice. Use caution when fishing this lake at this time.

MONROE MOUNTAIN LAKES: (January 06) There isn't much winter fishing pressure due to poor access.

NAVAJO LAKE: (January 06) Highway 14 in Cedar Canyon has been closed because of a landslide. The highway will be plowed from U.S. 89 to the Navajo Lake turnoff, but you'll need to snowmobile or hike to access areas beyond that point. There is little fishing pressure in the winter due to poor access, but the splake fishing should be good if you can reach the lake.

NEWCASTLE RESERVOIR: (January 06) The ice is about six inches thick near the dam, but the upper lake has open water. Continued mild temperatures could destabilize the ice. There's no fishing pressure.

OTTER CREEK RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (January 06) There is no snow in the area, so access is good. The ice is 8 to 10 inches thick. Watch out for soft edges in the afternoon. Fishing is generally fair for rainbows, and anglers are catching quality-sized fish that are in good condition. Anglers are reporting success at a variety of times and depths, with a variety of techniques. The key is to keep changing any of these variables until you find something that works. Don't hesitate to go much deeper than you normally would at Otter Creek—one angler reported good success at 20 feet.

PANGUITCH LAKE: (January 06) There is little snow in the area, so access is good. The ice is 8 to 10 inches thick. Fishing has been generally slow. To improve success, get away from areas that have seen a lot of pressure. Don't hesitate to fish out in the middle of the lake, especially if that's the only place you can find that has hole-free ice. Keep changing your location, depth, technique and bait until you find something that works. All cutthroat and tiger trout between 15 and 22 inches must be released.

PARAGONAH RESERVOIR: (January 06) Access is good, and there's little snow in the area. Anglers report good to excellent fishing.

PINE LAKE: (January 06) The lake may have safe ice, but access is difficult.

PIUTE RESERVOIR: (January 06) The reservoir is full and has very little ice. Shore fishing might be worth a try until it ices over.

QUAIL LAKE: (January 06) Visit www.stateparks.utah.gov for the current boat ramp schedule. Rainbow trout have been stocked and should provide fair to good fishing.

SAND HOLLOW RESERVOIR: (January 06) Bass activity slows down during the winter, so you must adjust your fishing techniques. The primary key to coldwater bass fishing is to slow down the presentation, even employing dead-sticking, if necessary. A variety of plastics, including senkos, swimbaits, hula grubs and drop-shots, are all effective with the right presentation. A drop-shot rig is one of the more popular cold-weather techniques, due to its natural slow presentation. Concentrate on deeper water at 20 to 30 feet. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits can also be effective during the warmest part of the day. Quagga mussels are present in Sand Hollow, so plan extra time to have your boat washed before leaving.

SEVIER RIVER IN MARYSVALE CANYON: (January 06) Water is being released from Piute Reservoir, and the high flows are making it difficult to fish.

THOUSAND LAKE MOUNTAIN: (January 06) The Elkhorn Road from Forsyth Reservoir is impassable due to snow. Solomon Basin is accessible from I-70 in Emery County. Snow makes it difficult to access most other lakes. One angler reports good success at Meek's Lake, but slow fishing at Floating Island.

TROPIC RESERVOIR: (January 06) There isn't much winter fishing pressure due to poor access.

WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMUNITY FISHERIES: (January 06) All of the ponds have been stocked regularly since November. You might also want to check out the new pond, which is located at Sullivan Virgin River Park on 300 East in Washington.

WIDE HOLLOW RESERVOIR: (January 06) The ice is thin.

YANKEE MEADOW RESERVOIR: (January 06) The reservoir may have safe ice, but access is difficult.

    NORTHERN

Please e-mail your fishing reports on Northern Region waters to PhilDouglass@utah.gov.

ATTENTION: Quagga and zebra mussels are a major threat to Utah waterways. Watch this video to learn more about these destructive mussels and how to decontaminate your boat.

BEAR LAKE: (January 06) The surface water temperature is 38 degrees, and there is no ice on Bear Lake. Anglers are catching both lake trout and cutthroat trout by trolling and jigging off Gus Rich Point/rockpile. There's also good fishing to the south of the point, all the way to the rest area. Second Point and the pump house are also producing some nice fish. Good depths to target have been about 60–80 feet for trolling and 40–70 feet for jigging. Minnow-type lures work the best if you're trolling. You might want to try large tube jigs tipped with cisco if you're jigging. Anglers should start seeing cisco off the rockpile area around Jan. 10. Jigging for cisco should be good this year in about 40–50 feet of water, and it will likely be open water due to the warm weather forecast. Boat launching is available at the Utah State Park marina, First Point and the Rainbow Cove ramp. All of the boat ramps have courtesy docks in place at this time, but they can become iced over and slippery, so please be cautious. The ramp at Cisco Beach is not usable right now. The concrete portion of the ramp is well underwater, and it's easy to get stuck in the soft sand and loose rock. The cisco run updates will begin on Jan. 13 and continue until the run is over. Remember, if you launch, boat or fish on the Idaho half of the lake you must have an Idaho mussel certification sticker on your boat or you will be ticketed.

BIRCH CREEK RESERVOIR: (January 06) If you want to catch a nice tiger trout through the ice, this is a good place to go! Catch rates are slower, but the fish are a good size.

BLACKSMITH FORK RIVER: (January 06) Watch for midge hatches with the warmer temperatures.

BOUNTIFUL LAKE: (January 06) Use extreme caution—warmer temperatures could affect ice conditions.

CAUSEY RESERVOIR: (January 06) Conservation Officer David Beveridge reports that the ice is good, but the fishing is slow. Occasionally, anglers will find a school of kokanee and do really well. The Wheat Grass arm still has some open water near the inlet.

CUTLER RESERVOIR & MARSH: (January 06) Cutler Reservoir receives almost no fishing activity in the winter months. River flows at major access points make the ice unstable and unpredictable.

EAST CANYON RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (January 06) Volunteer Rick Johnson reports that ice conditions range from three inches on the west side to eight inches on the east. Warmer temperatures have thawed the top layer of ice, leaving water on top. The shoreline ice is getting soft in the late afternoon. Anglers reported some success while fishing on the buoys. There are very few fish on the finders.

ECHO RESERVOIR: (January 06) Fishing is slow to fair at Echo. The ice is approximately eight inches thick. Anglers are using various baits and lures, and fishing is fair.

FARMINGTON POND: (January 06) The pond is closed to vehicle access.

HOLMES CREEK RESERVOIR: (December 29) Conservation Officer Brandon Baron observed one party of anglers over the weekend. Use caution as periods of warmer weather may cause changes in the ice conditions.

HYRUM RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (January 06) Park Ranger Steve Bullock reports that the reservoir has six to eight inches of ice. Anglers report good fishing for rainbow trout.

JENSEN NATURE PARK POND: (January 06) One angler interviewed over the weekend caught a nice rainbow from shore with PowerBait.

KAYSVILLE PONDS: (December 29) Conservation Officer Brandon Baron reports the ice is not safe. The anglers that have been fishing report doing well.

LITTLE CREEK RESERVOIR: (January 06) The DWR stocked several thousand rainbows in October 2011, and they are providing good fishing opportunities.

LOGAN RIVER: (January 06) Watch for afternoon midge hatches with the warmer weather. There are large slabs of ice along the banks, so use caution when accessing the river.

LOST CREEK RESERVOIR: (January 06) Biologist Phil Tuttle reports that the reservoir is capped on the east arm, the north arm and near the dam. The middle of the reservoir is not yet capped. Ice fishing is good to great for rainbows and the occasional large cutthroat. Try using white jigs (tipped with wax worms or nightcrawlers) either near the bottom or just a few feet under the ice. Anglers have already caught a few trophy cutthroat (over six pounds) through the ice this year. Remember that new regulations went into effect on Jan. 1. The total trout limit is four. You may keep three fish under 15 inches and one fish over 22 inches. All trout between 15 and 22 inches must be immediately released.

MANTUA RESERVOIR: (January 06) Anglers report good fishing for smaller bluegills. The ice is nearly 10 inches thick, and it's very slick—ice cleats are a good idea. Biologist Clint Brunson reports some success for rainbows, perch and bluegill in 8 to 18 feet of water. The ice is still clear, and warmer temperatures have produced some water on top of the ice. The fish are biting light.

MIRROR LAKE: (January 06) Smith Morehouse is still accessible. Ice covers the reservoir, but you can get there in a car.

NEWTON RESERVOIR: (January 06) Biologist Chris Penne reports that Newton has eight or nine inches of ice. As of last weekend, the edges were getting a bit soft around midday. With the warm weather, anglers should exercise caution on the ice. Fishing is fair to good for perch using ice jigs and wax worms. Biologist Kent Sorensen fished Newton on Jan. 2 but reported that fishing was slow.

OGDEN RIVER: (January 06) Look for some midge hatches with the warmer weather. Flows continue to be low and clear.

PINEVIEW RESERVOIR: (January 06) The ice is generally unsafe. Due to the warmer weather, the ice has melted at Browning Point and at the narrows. There are anglers out on the Anderson cove side and Gertsen. On Jan. 5, two anglers were seen on the north side of the narrows, fishing with lights after dark. Access can be dangerous because puddles of water have weakened the ice along the shoreline, especially in the narrows. Anglers who have fished Pineview over the past week report that the fish haven't been interested in any of the baits used.

PORCUPINE RESERVOIR: (January 06) The edges have iced up, but there is open water in the middle.

ROCKPORT RESERVOIR: (January 06) The ice fishing at Rockport has been good. Anglers report good fishing with ice flies and wax worms. Worms, PowerBait and other traditional baits have also worked well. The fish are suspended at depths of around 15 to 25 feet. Anglers have also been doing well at the south end in shallow waters. Joseph Hamby reports that although there's ice on Rockport, it's thinning in some spots. Use extreme caution on the ice with the warmer weather. Tagged fish were planted in the reservoir on Dec. 28, and the contest will continue through the winter. For more information on the tagged-fish contest, visit the Rockport State Park Web site.

WEBER RIVER: (January 06) Biologist Paul Thompson reports that stream flows in the Weber River (below Echo Dam) remain high for this time of year. Fishing is still good, however, with standard nymphs (hares' ears, pheasant tails, scuds and midges). Stream flows between Echo and Rockport have remained constant at just over 200 cfs. This reach has also been fishing well with winter nymph patterns.

WILLARD BAY RESERVOIR: (January 06) Assistant Park Manager Chris Bradshaw reports that although there is ice on Willard Bay, it does not look good after the recent warmer weather and should be considered unsafe. The fishing is slow. One person estimated the catch was one crappie for every eight hours of fishing. Park Ranger Mert Russo reports that anglers are catching some perch and crappie in the north marina, but it is slow. The ice ranges from one to two inches in the marina, and it's not safe to walk on.
