South Fork Snake River - flows are dropping, but the fishing remains pretty constant. Blue winged olives and hoppers are working well.

Henrys Fork Snake River - Blue winged olives are working well on the Henry's Fork too. Fishing has picked up because of warmer days recently. A cold trend is expected toward the end of the Labor Day weekend but fishing should pick later next week.

Henrys Lake - widely fluctuating water temperatures and recent storms have kept the fish on the move and off the bite. But fly anglers are reporting decent catches in the Howard Creek area. Bait anglers are catching fish in the middle of the lake and near the cliffs. Trollers are finding open lanes and are just beginning to find fish. Shoreline angling will pick up in a week or two. About 1.7 million fingerlings will be planted in Henrys Lake during the next couple of weeks. Fishermen dollars support this aggressive planting schedule and contribute directly to this productive fishery.

Island Park Reservoir - good reports are coming from the Trude's Bay area. This is a great time to hit Island Park reservoir for some terrific rainbow action. Be extremely careful. The water level has dropped below the 50 percent mark and will continue to recede in the coming weeks.

The fishing looks good for the Labor Day weekend. Anglers report catching a lot of whitefish on the Salmon River using nymphs and mealworms. Trout fishing is also good on the river right now. Very small flies including small caddis flies are doing a good job attracting fish. Hoppers are still abundant with the dry conditions, and are a good pattern to use as well.

Bayhorse Lake is fishing well with fish biting on just about anything you can put in the water. Fly fishermen are having good luck with damselflies. Youngsters can have a great time dunking worms. Mosquito Flats Reservoir is also fishing very well. Anglers report excellent luck with worms and spinners. Even though it is the end of the summer, Mackay Reservoir is still holding a lot of water. Trout fishing using wedding rings has been good, and kokanee fishing should be picking up soon.

September 1 marked the beginning of the fall steelhead season on the main Salmon River. As fall weather arrives in the region, the fishing for these ocean-going rainbow trout should start picking up.

Don't forget to check with the tackle shop nearest your fishing destination for more fishing information and equipment.
