Fishing Report

Deschutes River - Warm Springs to Trout Creek. Water level is at 4250 cfs. Try nymphing with stonefly nymphs with a dropper fly such as a beadhead Purple Flash Prince (size 14-16), BH Prince Of Darkness (size 14), Zug Bug (size 14), Green Rock Worm (size 12-14), BH Pheasant Tail (size 16-18). With all the anglers fishing the surface with stonefly dries remember that trout will still feed on the nymphs.
The stonefly hatch is on from Maupin up to Warm Springs. The hatch is early this season due to warmer water temps. You better get over there this weekend. Best patterns for the adult stones are the Sofa Pillow, Rogue Giant, Norm Wood Special, and the Carnage Stone. If you need a good guide for the Deschutes check out Rainbow Bend Guides & Outfitters. Bob will do a great trip for you.
McKenzie River - River level @ Vida is 4,030 cfs. Leaburg Dam downstream to the Willamette. Pale Morning Duns, McKenzie caddis and a posibility of some Green Drakes. Fish the McKenzie Caddis in sizes 12-14. You can't miss these bugs as they have a blue-green body. For the next week or two and depending on waters levels nymphing will be the best tactic. BH Golden Stonefly nymphs with a BH Possie Bugger as the dropper fly are the favorite.
Call Creekside Flyfishing @ 503-588-1768 for a guided fly fishing trip with Rich Youngers on the McKenzie River
North Santiam River - Fishermens Bend downstream to Jefferson. Decent numbers of hatchery summer steelhead are in the system. Water level is @ 3,580cfs today and will hold steady at this level for the next several days. Best level is from 3000 cfs down to 1500 cfs. We have good counts over Willamette Falls so it should wind up to be a good season on the river. Trout season opened May 22nd.
Call Creekside Flyfishing @ 503-588-1768 to book a guided steelhead or trout trip with Rich Youngers on the North Santiam.
Nestucca River: Flyfishing for summer steelhead has been spotty but there are enough fish around to make a trip over there. Small dark traditional patterns work the best. River level at 4.73ft. Some Spring Chinook are also available.
Metolius River - Nymphing a large golden stonefly nymph such as the popular Fat ******* or a size 8 tungsten trout retriever with a dropper such as the BH Flashback Pheasant Tail will be your best bet until we start to see some PMD's and Green Drakes towards the middle of May.
Diamond Lake - Fishing is good as of late. Forest Service campground on the north end of the lake is open. Broken Arrow campground at the south end of the lake should be open for Memorial Weekend. Fly patterns should include Pheasant Tail nymph, hares ear nymph (#12-14), Rickard's Stillwater nymph (#12), bead head damsel nymph (#12), Woolly buggers (8-10) in black or olive, Rickard's Seal Buggers (#8-10) and chironomids (10-12) in red with a white bead head.
