Greers Ferry
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 462.47 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool - 461 MSL).
Tommy Cauley of Fish Finder Guide Service said the lake level is falling. The surface temperature is 46-49 degrees and rising. The expected warm rain should really put the river walleye on the move and a lot of males should start showing up soon. Try hair jigs, jigs with minnows and crankbaits. The hybrids and white bass continue to be good all over the lake. Try the Claw (Alabama rig), spoons, hair jigs and in-line spinners. No report on catfish. Crappie are still good around brush piles and in the pole timber. Jigs, jigs with minnows and small spoons fished vertically are catching the most fish.
Cody S. Smith of www.fishgreersferry.com said the water is falling with daily releases. Surface temperatures dropped from the low 50s to the high 40s. Quality largemouths are being taken on Alabama-rigged paddletail swimbaits. The fish are scattered around pre-spawn locations. Cover a lot of water to catch these larger staging fish, while most of the smaller largemouths are still schooled tightly in their winter pattern. White bass are beginning to feed well on the main lake with a few showing up in the rivers. Vertically jigging a spoon around suspended fish has been the best way to catch white bass. It’s still a little early for a good walleye bite, but longer days and the full moon should spur some better action.

Fly-fishermen are doing well on woolly buggers during high water and egg patterns and Y2K bugs during low water. The further upstream you go, the better the fishing gets. Rapalas and other minnow-style crankbaits are working well. Drift-fishing Power Eggs, shrimp or trout worms has worked well on rainbows.
Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) said generation has been steady and the fish are holding in the deeper pools. Black/silver no. 7 Countdown Rapalas are working well on rainbows and brown trout.
Guide Davy Wotton said Bull Shoals Dam trophy zone opened last week with the usual armada of boat traffic and anglers. Despite that fishing was good for many with many trophy browns caught as well as many good rainbow trout. There have been a few reports of shad, but there likely will not be a large shad kill this year. Lakes are close to pool levels, so expect fluctuations from high to low during the day. If fishing swift water, dead drift egg, worm or nymph patterns. Streamer fishing may be off and on, but is still worth trying. During slower current, fish midge pupae, sow bug and scud patterns.
Jim Brentlinger at Linger’s Guide Service and Fishing Lodge(870-499-5185) said fishing has been slow. All the rain muddied up the confluence of the Buffalo River and the White, making it unfishable.

Seasonal flies include scuds, sow bugs, blue wing olives, micro-caddis, midges, worm, egg and sculpin patterns. Now is the time to get out your big streamers and the 8 weight rods to pick up some big browns.
Lake Norfork
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 522.87 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool: Sept.-April - 552 MSL, April-Sept. - 554 MSL).

Hummingbird Hideaway Resort said crappie, largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass are currently the best bites on Norfork Lake. A ¼-oz. spoon fished vertically light line and a spinning rod has worked well on suspended fish. Look for schools of baitfish in 20 to 30 feet of water and you’ll find the crappie and bass.
Guide Steve Olomon said the water temperature is in the mid- to upper 40s. Look for fish suspended around 30 feet deep, and drop a jigging spoon to them. Crappie, bass, stripers and walleye can all be caught on the spoon. Another good tactic is to throw suspending jerk baits along bluffs and over deep brush piles in coves.
Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) had no new report

Bass have also been biting hula grubs or jigs with a craw trailer around docks or timber along sloping chunk rock banks. Afternoons have been best. Crappie fishing has been very good from late morning until the afternoon. Fish have been suspending just below the surface in 15 feet of water above brush piles and along pole timber closer to deeper water. A black/chartreuse or pink/white 2-inch swim bait fished under a cork 4 to 8 feet deep has worked well. If the fish are a bit deeper, try a slow retrieved curly tail grub. Blue Springs, Hickory Creek, Friendship Creek and Monte-NE have all been good areas to fish. White bass continue to roam main lake flats and points. They can be picked off by slow trolling a Bandit crankbait. Point 12, Monte-NE and Prairie Creek have all been good. Catfishing has been best at Hickory Creek and the 412 bridge access. Liver or worms have worked best.
Southtown Sporting Goods (479-443-7148) said the main part of the lake is clear and the river arms are stained. The surface temperature is in the mid-40s. Bream are slow. There are still relatively low numbers of boats on the lake, and the fishing is slow for the most part. On the warmer days, there are some fish to be caught around shallow points leading into the spawning areas. These can be caught on soft plastics, jerk baits and crankbaits.
Southwest Arkansas
Millwood Lake
Mike Siefert at Millwood Lake Guide Service said the water is still high, at 259.58 msl, and is falling from the high discharge rate of 12,862 at the dam. Extreme caution should be used navigating the lake and the tailrace because of the high current. The surface temperature dropped to 45 degrees and the water clarity is 1 to 2 inches near Little River in the main lake. River Run East facilities are still undergoing maintenance and upgrades, and are closed until mid-July 2012. Paraloma Park is closed for the winter. All other ramps and USACE parks are open. Largemouth bass are biting well on jigs, worms, tubes and spinnerbaits pitched to stumps, grass and dead vegetation behind current breaks. A few male bass were seen looking for bedding areas on warmer days last week, but have since disappeared. Rat-L-Traps in Toledo gold, white zombie, or red shad continue catching largemouth bass in flats 5 to 6 feet deep near drops to 12 feet. Bomber crankbaits in Tennessee shad, citrus shad or white are catching a few largemouths in the oxbows away from muddy current. White bass have gone deep in the river channel, and have all but disappeared with the recent influx of muddy water and increased current. Crappie are still scattered and slow. Catfishing is still very good to excellent on trotlines, yo-yos and tight lines along current breaks in Little River. DeGray Lake
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 408.44 feet MSL (Flood pool - 408 MSL).
Local angler George Graves said surface water temperature is in the low 50s, and the lake is clear up to Point 14 and stained to Cox Creek. Bass fishing is fair at best. The rising high water has scattered the fish. A few decent catches have been reported from the upper part of the lake between Point 15 and Cox Creek. The fish are starting to move up to the 10- to 15-foot range. Look for fish on the north side of the lake. Also fish the windy points, even though it may be uncomfortable, that is where the bait is and the warmer wind raises the water temperature. The best bites are coming on Texas- or Carolina-rigged worms or lizards in green pumpkin or red shad. Some larger fish are coming jigs. There has been no activity on Alabama rigs in the last week. Big Hill Creek is still producing some fish on heavy jigging spoons along the edges of the old creek channel 20 to 25 feet deep. Crappie fishing is still slow. Fish the deep attractors, around 25 to 30 feet deep. Fish main lake attractors between Arlie Moore and Point Cedar. The best crappie lure is a Tennessee shad-colored, 2-inch grub on a 1/16-oz. jig head fished vertically over the brush. Hybrid fishing has slowed because the fish are now starting to move farther upriver and off the big flat west of Goat Island. The fish are not schooling and are difficult to locate. The best pattern is to slow troll 3-inch curly tail grubs on ¼-oz. jig heads between Goat Island and Cox Creek.
West-Central Arkansas

The best action seems to be coming from Horsehead Creek and Piney Bay. Catfish were biting very well over the weekend. Several anglers limited out fishing off the bank at Spadra Park. Night crawlers and shad seem to be the best bait choices. Largemouth bass have been biting fairly well on Skinny Dippers and Alabama rigs. Lake Catherine
For weekly flow releases from Carpenter Dam, visit www.entergy.com/hydro.
Shane Goodner, owner of Catch’em All Guide Service, said water temperature below Carpenter Dam is 45 degrees with clear conditions. Generators are running heavily in an effort to keep lakes Hamilton and Ouachita out of flood pool. Fast currents will continue all week, so navigation below the dam will be extremely dangerous. Despite strong current, rainbow trout fishing is good to excellent. Bank anglers are catching fish near current breaks on wax worms, redworms, marshmallows, corn and Power Bait. Fly-fishermen are doing well with white streamers and other shad-imitations. Spin fishermen are recording limits of trout on white or gray 1/16- and 1/8-oz. jigs around sand bars and rock structure. Trolling small crankbaits is a good way to cover areas that are holding fish and has accounted for the largest trout. Walleye should begin showing up below the dam in the next week or two. Trolling crankbaits and Carolina rigs baited with minnows are the best techniques for finding and catching these fish. A few white and yellow bass have been caught on jerk baits. Stripers are fair at best.
