Guide Davy Wotton had no report.

Jim Brentlinger at Linger’s Guide Service and Fishing Lodge(870-499-5185) said fishing has been great. Water levels have remained constant, with plenty of water to get up and down the river. Rapalas (black/gold/white or spring perch colors) work well on higher water. As it drops, go to the Zig Jig (ginger, ginger/orange or olive/ginger). The long term weather forecast is very good so get that motor started and enjoy the White River.

Buffalo River

Just Fishing Guides said the river levels are – Ponca – 2.30 feet and 97 cfs; Pruitt – 4.57 feet and 102 cfs; Tyler Bend – 5.69 feet and 1160 cfs; Buffalo Point – 4.37 feet and 1120 cfs. Water temperatures range from 45-49 degrees. Water temperatures are right at the point where fishing gets tough for smallmouth. Make sure you are fishing the deep holes and shallower waters on warm sunny days.

Crooked Creek

Just Fishing Guides said the gauge at Kelly’s Slab is reading 10.76 ft and 60 cfs. This is 1.5 feet below the low-water bridge. Water temperatures have been averaging 47 degrees. Water temperatures are right at the point where fishing gets tough for smallmouth. Make sure you are fishing the deep holes and shallower waters on warm sunny days.

Bull Shoals Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 653.86 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool - 654 MSL).

Mike Worley’s Guide Service said water surface temperature is in the low- to mid-50s. Many areas are very foggy with the cold air, so be careful when boating. Jigging spoons are still catching a mixed bag of black and white bass and a few crappie in 30 to 50 feet of water. Walleyes have been moving shallow and can be caught on suspending stick baits on points and in coves. Crappie are suspended over brush piles and around standing timber along bluff banks. Smallmouth and spotted bass are in shallow water and are biting very well on crawfish-colored jigs and crankbaits.

Bull Shoals Tailwater

Just Fishing Guides said generation has been around the clock, varying between two to six units (5,000-20,000 cfs). Nymphing and streamers are two of the more productive presentations. Seasonal flies include scuds, sow bugs, blue wing olives, micro caddis, midges, worm, egg and sculpin patterns.

Lake Norfork

Just Fishing Guides said generation has been usually twice per day with flows to 8,000 cfs. There have been periods of low water each day for wade fishers. Tan scuds have been hot lately. Small streamers without bead or cone heads producing a slower fall are working well also. Sow bugs, midges, worm and egg patterns should be in your arsenal as well.

Northwest Arkansas

Beaver Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 1,120.48 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool - 1,120 MSL).

Bailey’s Beaver Lake Guide Service (479-366-8664) said striper activity is good. They will be fairly active, and can be taken on live shad fished on free lines 150 feet behind the boat or on lightly weighted balloon lines trolled 10-25 feet deep, 50-100 feet behind the boat. The stripers will be active most of the day with peaks around sunrise, sunset and during generation. Rain run off could complicate things; remember when fishing upriver, avoid the brown water and look for greener water. Live shad in the 3-6 inch range is the best approach for trophy stripers right now. Most stripers are uplake right now. They are around deep water near the roadbed in front of Rocky Branch Marina, and in Cedar Creek, Ford Creek and Goat Island at Larue. Copper Mine also seems to be a good spot to hit at mid-lake. In the upriver section, check Prairie Creek, Coose Hollow, Blackburn Creek and especially Joe Creek in Horseshoe Bend. Most walleye are about 10-20 feet deep. The areas around the islands at Rocky Branch, Prairie Creek and near points 12, 9, 8 and 7 have all been producing walleye. Flatline troll with Hot-N-Tots, Rapala Tail Dancers, Shad Raps, Reef Runners or Ripstiks in natural blue or black back combos or chartreuse/orange and clown colors. Jigging spoons around brush and rock piles are also producing.

JT’s Crappie Guide Service (479-640-3980) said bass fishing has been good. The best options have been to work a crawfish-colored, medium-diving crankbait along sloping banks close to deep water or to use a jig around docks and timber in similar areas. Bluff lines are beginning to produce more fish as well. Jigging spoons are still picking a few off along timber in 20 to 45 feet of water. Crappie fishing has been slow. Fish appear to be in winter transition. The best option has been to locate a brush pile or group of timber in 15 to 35 feet of water close to channel ledges and slowly vertical jig a Shinee Hinee or minnow close to or just above the brush. Monte-NE, Blue Springs, Eden Bluff and Piney Creek have been producing some fish. White bass can still be caught by slow trolling a Bandit or Hot-N-Tot crankbait along channel ledges in coves or main lake flats. Prairie Creek, Monte-NE, the mouth of War Eagle Creek and Rocky Branch have all been good places to troll. Catfish have been hitting worms or liver from the bank late in the day into the evening at 12 bridge, Monte-NE, Hickory Creek and 412 access.

Southtown Sporting Goods (479-443-7148)
said the water is clear and at normal level. Bream are slow. Crappie are slow. Bass are biting well on crankbaits and jigs on main lake points near deep water. Stripers are biting well on live shad.

Beaver Tailwater

Just Fishing Guides said there’s plenty of low water for wade fishing. The water has been off color but the fishing has been consistently good. A variety of flies are working including; Humpback Scud, BH Simple Sow, BH Flashback Pheasant Tail, all in sizes 12-16. Zebra Midge(grey, black, olive and red), size 18 and small streamers (size 8-12) including Wooly Bugger, Sparrow, .56'er and Zonker. Egg patterns are also working.

Lake Elmdale

Lucky Key at Duck Camp Fishing Retreat said the lake level is up and water clarity is good. Green jigs with green frog trailers are working fairly well for bass. Crappie are slow, but a few folks are catching them trolling deep-running crankbaits. The fishing has been slow overall because of the repeated cold fronts.

Kings River

Just Fishing Guides said the river gauge near Grandview is reading 3.83 ft. and 436 cfs. Water temperatures are hitting near 45 degrees in the afternoon. Water temperatures are right at the point where fishing gets tough for smallmouth. Make sure you are fishing the deep holes and shallower waters on warm sunny days.

Lake Fayetteville

Millwood Lake

Mike Siefert at Millwood Lake Guide Service said the scheduled drawdown for Millwood Lake has ended. There has been a rapid rise in the lake to bring it back to normal pool, aided by the rain in Oklahoma and Arkansas last week. Surface temperatures dropped again, and are currently 50 to 54 degrees. The water level is 2.4 inches above normal. The discharge at the dam on Monday was 12,977 cfs. Use extreme caution while boating. There is a tremendous amount of current with debris in Little River due to the incoming muddy water and increase in release rate at the dam. Clarity and visibility as of Monday on main lake is poor and muddy; visibility was reduced from increased current, incoming rain, thunderstorms and wind over the past weekend, currently ranging 0-2 inches in the River depending on location. River Run East facilities are still undergoing maintenance and upgrades, and as such, are still closed until mid-July 2012. Paraloma Park is closed for the winter. All other ramps and USACE parks are open. USACE recently completed updates at White Cliffs Camp ground with addition of 6-8 more campsites, and other facility improvements. The best largemouth bass bite has been pitching soft plastics to stumps, grass, lily pads and wood laydowns behind points and cuts of the river, in the swirling eddies where current break lines are being used by the bass. The best plastics were Gene Larew Hog Craws and Lake Fork Super Tubes in black, black/blue and June Bug. Pumpkinseed/chartreuse StrikeWorks Jigs worked around stumps, laydowns, and in lily pad stems were taking keeper size Bass as well. 5-inch Ringworms in black/firetail are taking some nice bass too. War Eagle Spinnerbaits are beginning to get a few good reactions in the dead/dying lily pad stems away from current. The best colors are cole slaw or white/chartreuse. If you are able to find clearer water in the oxbows, Rat-L-Traps in Red Shad, Toledo Gold, or Smokey Joe were taking some smaller bass. White bass and spotted bass disappeared with the recent influx of muddy water and increased current. The fish were schooling and hitting Rat-L-Traps and Bomber crankbaits up Little River before the rising water. Snake Creek still has a few spotted bass bunched up out of the muddy current that will hit 4-inch mini-lizards in chartreuse pumpkin color. Crappie remain scattered with the increase of current and muddy water. Crappie seemed to have moved to clearer water in backs of the oxbows on deep cypress trees. Crappie were near planted brush piles along Little River between 12-14 feet deep but have moved out of the current and muddy water in search of clarity and depth. Catfish are good on trotlines, yo-yos and tight lines along current and break lines in the outer bends of Little River with the increase in current. Blues and channel cats were biting Catfish Charlie, cut shad and chicken livers in 15-20 feet of water and cut shad on yo-yos tied along Little River in 10-15 feet of water.

DeGray Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 404.25 feet MSL (Flood pool - 408 MSL).

Local angler George Graves said the surface water temperature is in the low 50s and the lake is clear from the dam to Arlie Moore, with some stain up to Point Cedar. Bass fishing is good with some decent catches reported coming from deep points, humps and ledges from 20 to 40 feet deep. The best lures have been heavy jigs with plastic trailers, Texas-rigged worms and finesse worms on shaky heads. Work the lures very slowly because fish will not chase anything moving fast in this cold water. The best areas have been on the main lake between Arlie Moore and Shouse Ford. Also try the ledges along the old creek channel in Big Hill Creek. Crappie fishing remains good with many big fish coming from the deep attractors in 25 to 30 feet of water on main lake points and at the mouths of spawning coves. Fish vertically over and just above the thickest part of the brush; don’t jig the lure, just move around the area very slowly. The best lure has been a Tennessee shad Kalin's 2-inch grub on a 1/16-ounce chartreuse jig head with a crappie nibble. Don't forget the crappie nibble, it makes a big difference in fish caught in cold water. Look for brush between Edgewood and Shouse Ford. Also try Big Hill Creek and Brushy Creek. Bream fishing is good with lots of fish on the same attractors that hold crappies. Tight line a worm or cricket just above the brush and move around the attractor very slowly. A few hybrids are in the Arlie Moore area. Look for schools holding 20 to 30 feet down in water 60 to 70 feet deep. Drop a ½-ounce chrome jigging spoon or a 3-inch white grub on a ¼-ounce jig head just above the school and move it slowly. Morning is the best time for the hybrids.

Lake Hinkle

Bill’s Bait Shop (479-637-7419) said no one is fishing. No report.

Lake Dardanelle

Regina Olson at Spadra Marina said it’s a great crappie season at the upriver end of Dardanelle. Everyone seems to be catching limits with no problem. Minnow fishermen are catching bigger fish, some reporting 8-10 out of 20 being at 2 pounds or better. They are fishing about 14 feet deep. Jig fishermen seem to be catching more fish, but are decidedly smaller, with 1 lb. 10 oz. being the largest in a limit. Many are reporting catches of over 50 crappie, and being able to choose the best 20 to keep. The color of choice is still red/clear glitter, with whites and white speckles falling close behind. Catfish have been biting well. Shad is the no. 1 bait choice, while worms and bass minnows are a close second. Many catfishermen are catching their daily limit in 2 to 3 hours. We have seen many big ones out of those 10 as well. Largemouth bass have been biting well recently, especially on sunny days.

Blue Mountain Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 405.58 feet MSL.

Lake Ouachita

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 579.54 MSL (Flood pool - 578 MSL).

Larry Hurley from Poorman’s Guide Service said bass fishing is good with a lot of fish shallow in the flooded buck brush. Jigs and Texas-rigged brush hogs have been producing well. Stripers are fair but spotty; look for shad and try large spoons.

Trader Bill’s Outdoor Sports had no report.

Mountain Harbor Resort said the water is murky and 52-56 degrees. Largemouth bass are good watermelon or black/blue jigs. Spotted bass are excellent on drop-shotted finesse worms in 20 to 25 feet of water. Walleye are fair and being caught on bottom-bouncer jigs, spoons and deep-diving crankbaits trolled 25 to 35 feet deep around brush. Stripers are good on live bait and large hair jigs or crankbaits trolled 18-25 feet deep. Crappie are biting well near and over brush in 12 to 20 feet of water on minnows or Tennessee shad- and rainbow trout-colored crappie grubs. Catfish are good on cut bait and live bait on jug lines and trotlines from 20 to 30 feet deep.

Lake Hamilton

Trader Bill’s Outdoor Sports said the water is extremely swift as the lakes are being drawn back down after the heavy rains.

For a daily fishing report from Darryl Morris, visit Family Fishing Trips.

Lake Catherine

For weekly flow releases from Carpenter Dam, visit www.entergy.com/hydro.

Shane Goodner, owner of Catch’em All Guide Service, Catch’em All Guide Service reports that Entergy has scheduled a very heavy generation schedule below Carpenter Dam due to Lake Ouachita being up into the flood pool. All area dams are running large amounts of water through the system in an effort to bring lakes back to winter levels. Swift currents and muddy water have been the norm below Carpenter Dam, which has kept many boaters off the lake and greatly impaired bank fishermen. Rainbow trout have a strong dislike for muddy conditions and are extremely difficult to catch under these circumstances. Trout are present in the tailrace but are scattered. Until the water clears, rainbows will be hard to catch, but not impossible. Wax worms and nightcrawlers are the best live baits to use, but are difficult to see in the present conditions so bites come slower. Artificial lures need a bright pattern to increase visibility. Rooster Tails and Rapala jerk baits fit the bill perfectly in stained water. Fly fishermen have taken a few trout by casting egg patterns with a strike indicator on the edges of moving water and visible cover. White bass fishing has taken a nosedive. Experienced bass fishermen have zeroed on guided trips below the dam. No hybrid or striper activity has been observed. Anyone navigating the tailrace must use caution and observe all rules when visiting Carpenter Dam.
