Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) said generation has been high the last week and the fishing has been hot. Drift fishing using Power Bait in yellow and pink/white fished in the deeper channels has worked better this week than lures.
Guide Davy Wotton said unseasonably warm weather has been most welcome, and fish have been active most of the day. Generations have been a little erratic with days of very high water to lower generations and shut down, therefore you will have to pay attention for the best zones to fish, be it wade or boat fishing. Brown trout fishing continues to be exceptional with many days of double-digit numbers and fish well over 20 inches. Both rivers are well stocked with rainbows as well. The best options will be drift-fishing combinations of sow bugs, white tail black and red midges, prism worms and hares ear during low water. During high water, switch to combinations of eggs, San Juan worms, larger sizes of sow bugs, scuds and white tail midges. Streamer fishing may be good one day and gone another. The Bull Shoals Dam area opens Feb 1. If there are low water levels then, midges, sowbugs and soft hackles will be the order of the day, if we see generations then most of the above will work..
Jim Brentlinger at Linger’s Guide Service and Fishing Lodge(870-499-5185) said fishing is excellent on green or ginger Zig Jigs. In the deeper holes, Rapalas will produce. Get out and enjoy the nice weather. Just be careful in the low water and keep an eye out for problem areas. Get someone to shuttle you around and do one-way trips.

Bull Shoals Lake
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 653.55 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool - 654 MSL).
Mike Worley’s Guide Service said unseasonably warm weather has kept water temps 48-52 degrees with many species of fish moving shallow and biting on jigs, suspending stick baits and grubs. Sow rolling an Alabama rig baited with 5 twister-tailed grubs has produced striped bass, white bass, black bass and walleye. Deeper fish are biting on jigging spoons about 40 feet deep on points and drop offs. Crappie are biting over brush piles on jigs about 20 feet deep.
Bull Shoals Tailwater
Just Fishing Guides had no new report.
Lake Norfork
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 551.95 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool: Sept.-April - 552 MSL, April-Sept. - 554 MSL).
Blackburn Resort said the lake level has dropped to just below 552 with intermediate generation. The creeks are stained a little from recent rains, and you can see about 7 feet down on the main lake. Crappie and bass fishing are the best with some walleye showing up with the big bass. Surface temperature has dropped to just below 50 degrees. Grubs, spoons and swim baits are working well for bass and crappie, and minnows on a slip float are working excellently for crappie as well. Fishing has been very good in general, with some very big fish being caught. Most fish are about halfway up the creeks near brush. Stripers are holding deeper and are moving in and out of the creeks.
101 Grocery and Bait said fishing has been good. Crappie are hitting minnows and small plastic baits from 10 to 20 feet deep. Bass fishing has been good on flukes and jerk baits. Stripers are hitting shiners and jigging spoons. White bass fishing has been slow.
STR Outfitters said the stripers are in their winter pattern and are in 60 to 100 feet of water around shad in the mid-lake area. Stripers are off mid-lake bluff walls and main lake creeks. There are large schools feeding on small shad. Baits set at 24 to 36 feet were all producing. Float creek and Crystal Cove have been the best spots in the afternoons.
Hummingbird Hideaway Resort said crappie anglers have been doing well. Live bait is working the best, but small grubs tipped with a minnow are also working well. The fish are still on shallow brush (6 to 10 feet deep) early and late in the day and go to deeper brush in mid-day. You can also find them at all depths. Bass are suspended 10 to 20 feet deep in water 25 to 35 feet. Some good stripers came 40 feet down in 70 feet of water off of bluff lines.
Guide Steve Olomon said the water temperature is 50-52. Look for stripers suspended in 30-50 feet down during the day along bluffs and creek channels. Drop a jigging spoon and throw a stick bait for the fish up on the bank. Throw a vibratail grub on a ¼-oz. jig head to the bank and work it slowly back to the boat. Throw Wiggle Warts along the banks if the wind is blowing.
Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) had no new report
Norfork Tailwater
Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) said low generation and low fishing pressure have the fish scattered and holding in the deep holes above the catch-and-release to the shoals below the dam.

JT’s Crappie Guide Service (479-640-3980) said bass have been biting well on jigs with a craw trailer along and in docks located on sloping chunk rock banks. The best colors have been green pumpkin and pumpkin. Fish also have been biting crawdad-colored Wiggle Warts on windy days along windblown banks and points. Crappie fishing has been very good on sunny and warm days. Fish will suspend above brush piles, laydowns and pole timber in 15 to 35 feet of water close to a channel and can be caught using a jig under a cork set 4 to 8 feet deep. If action is tough, try slow reeling a curly tailed grub from the bottom up to locate fish. The best jig colors have been black/chartreuse, pink/white and blue/white. Blue Springs, Kelly Creek and Monte-NE have all been good places to fish. White bass can still be picked off by slow trolling a Bandit crankbait over main lake flats and points. Prairie Creek, Point 12, War Eagle Marina and the mouth of Monte-NE have all been good places to troll. Catfish can be caught from the bank late in the day using liver or stinkbait. Highway 12 or 412 bridges have been good places to find catfish.
Southtown Sporting Goods (479-443-7148) said the water is stained in the rivers and clear around the lake. The water is a little high. Bream are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows, jigs and trolled crankbaits in 8 to 12 feet of water. Bass are biting well on crankbaits and Alabama rigs. Stripers are fair on shad, and a few have hit topwater lately. Catfishing is slow.

Lake Frierson
Lake Frierson State Park said the water is murky and at normal level.
Spring River
Mark Crawford with Spring River Flies and Guides said water levels are running at 350 cfs at the spring and water clarity is clear with a green tint. The trout have been hitting very well over the last week. Guppies, mayfly emergers and Y2ks are hot. If you’re spin fishing it is hard to go wrong with a Trout Magnet. It should be fished below a float just off the bottom. Hot colors this week have been tan, white and hot pink. With the temps up and down, dress for cold and shed layers as it warms up.
Southeast Arkansas
Lake Chicot
Local angler Jessie James said the water temperature was 52 to 56 degrees. Catfish were biting well this week. Bream were caught on worms fairly well. Southwest Arkansas
Millwood Lake
New regulations for largemouth bass have gone into effect as of January 1, 2012. See http://www.agfc.com/resources/Pages/...okFishing.aspx for details.
Mike Siefert at Millwood Lake Guide Service said the lake level is dropping slowly back to normal conservation pool and is expected to continue through the week. Surface temperatures are 52 to 55 degrees. The discharge rate is 8,818 CFS, and there is a considerable amount of current with debris in Little River due to the incoming muddy water. Water clarity ranges from 5 to 8 inches in the river, depending on location. River Run East facilities are still undergoing maintenance and upgrades, and are closed until mid-July 2012. Paraloma Park is closed for winter. All other ramps and USACE parks are open. USACE recently completed updates at White Cliffs Camp ground with addition of 6-8 more campsites, and other facility improvements. The lake level has begun dropping back to normal conservation pool, and we are finding the bass in transition pulling back out to major creek tributaries and junctions with Little River. The best bet over the past week continues to be on Gene Larew Hog Craws in black, black/blue and June Bug colors. Yum Wooly Bugs, or creature baits like Zoom Brush Hogs in Watermelon/Red, Black/Blue and Killer Craw, were also catching some good bass on cypress trees and knees in 8-12 feet of water. Magnum Tubes are also working around stumps and cypress trees and knees. War Eagle spinnerbaits in Aurora, Hot Mouse, or Cole Slaw colors are working well slow rolled around lily pad stems. Salty Rat Tails, Yum Dingers, and Senko-style worms in purple smoke fleck, watermelon/red, or green pumpkin, are taking some nice largemouth spotted bass. Rat-L-Traps in Toledo Gold, Citrus Zombie or Sexy Zombie were working fairly well. The key to the Rat-L-Trap bite is slowing down the retrieve to a crawl and deflecting off stumps in flats 6-8 feet deep. The white bass have gone deep in the river channel, and all but disappeared with the recent influx of muddy water and increased current. Snake Creek tributary off Little River still has a few spotted bass bunched up out of the muddy current that were hitting lizards and Baby Brush Hogs in blackberry, chartreuse pumpkin, or cherry seed colors. Crappie are still very scattered. Catfish remain very good to excellent on trotlines, yo-yos and tight lines, along current and break lines in the outer bends of Little River. Blues and channel catfish were biting on cut shad, blood bait, hot dogs and chicken livers in 14-18 feet of Little River.

DeGray Lake
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 407.02 feet MSL (Flood pool - 408 MSL).
Local angler George Graves said the water temperature is in the high 40s and the lake is clear up to Point 14. Bass fishing is fair with most fishing now on the deep points, humps and ledges at 20 to 40 feet. The best presentation has been either a Texas-rigged worm or lizard and a heavy jig with soft-plastic "critter" trailer. The best colors are green pumpkin, red shad and cotton candy. Fish on or near the bottom very slowly in the cold water. Look for fish on main lake points and ledges from Arlie Moore to Cox Creek. Also try the mouths of coves with standing timber. Some fish have been caught on 1-oz. chartreuse or white jigging spoons around channel ledges in Big Hill Creek at 25 to 30 feet. Crappie fishing is slow; the fish are buried in the brush. Best method is to fish deep attractors at 25 to 30 feet and fish vertically over the thickest part of the brush. Use a 2-inch Tennessee shad grub or tube on a 1/16-ounce jig head and fish very slow with little or no jigging action. Also be sure to put a crappie nibble on the jig, it works. Look for attractors on the main lake between Caddo Drive and Point Cedar. Also try Big Hill Creek. Hybrid fishing is good with some big catches reported from the Shouse Ford and Point Cedar areas. The fish are schooling in preparation for their false spawning run up the Caddo River. Look for schools on the sonar which will be suspended at 15 to 20 feet in 30 to 35 feet of water. Throw a white or chartreuse 3 inch curly tail grub on a 1/4 ounce jig head or a 1/2 ounce jigging spoon in chrome or chartreuse. Best time is during the warmest part of the day, so no need to get an early start. No reports on bream or catfish.

Lake Hinkle
Bill’s Bait Shop (479-637-7419) said had no report.
Lake Dardanelle
Regina Olson at Spadra Marina said crappie are still biting very well. Colors of choice have been red/clear glitter, blue/clear glitter and silver. Minnow fishermen are still catching bigger crappie than jig fishermen. The rain seems to turn them off for a day or so, but when it is clear they pick back up again. They are staying in 4-7 feet of water, although I have heard minnow fishermen are fishing up to 14 feet deep. Catfish are stable. You can expect to catch a few, but may have to work hard to get your limit. They are biting best on shad (when you can find them), but many are using bass minnows or worms. Chartreuse worms have been reportedly doing very well still, which is a nice piece of information to keep in mind. So far, the glow worms have worked well in all-weather types. We have been seeing a lot more bass fishermen as of late, mostly trying to get a hold of the Alabama Rigs that have gained a lot of attention recently. Apparently they are producing some nice catches, because we keep getting customers coming by for more. Blue/Black and silvers have been the main lure color choices.
Blue Mountain Lake
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 386.08 feet MSL.
Lake Ouachita
As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 576.96 MSL (Flood pool - 578 MSL).
Larry Hurley from Poorman’s Guide Service said bass fishing is good with a jig and pig in dark colors fished around wood off of small points in creeks. Stripers are good in creeks above the standing timber on large spinnerbaits.
Trader Bill’s Outdoor Sports said the lake temperature is in the 50s. The lake level is above full pool. The water color is stained to clear. There is some good moss growing on the northeast side of the lake about 8 to 10 feet below the surface and scattered along the banks of Blakley's, Rabbit, and Cedar Fourche. Try a jig and a crank-bait over the moss. Also an Alabama rig can catch good fish off points and ledges. Crappie are in 10 to 15 feet of water over brush or moss.
Mountain Harbor Resort said the water is 46 to 50 degrees and stained. Largemouth bass are excellent on a watermelonseed or black/blue jigs. Umbrella rigs are producing a lot of quality fish as well fished 15 to 30 feet deep with shad-colored baits attached. Walleye are fair and being caught on bottom bouncer jigs, spoons and deep-diving crankbaits trolled 25 to 35 feet deep around brush.
Stripers are very good and being caught on live bait and trolled large hair jigs or crankbaits 18-25 feet deep. Crappie are biting well near and over brush in 12 to 20 feet of water on minnows or Tennessee shad or rainbow trout-colored crappie grubs. Catfish are fair and being caught on cut bait and live bait on jug lines and trotlines from 20-30 feet deep.
Lake Hamilton
Trader Bill’s Outdoor Sports said the lake temperature is in the 50s and cooling. The water color is stained to clear. The lake is 5 feet down from full pool for the winter drawdown. The Alabama rig has taken over most tournament weigh-ins. Put your boat over 60 feet of water and fish over 20 to 50 feet deep on deep points and ledge banks. A jig at the mouth of creeks is also working well. Crappie are in 8 to 12 feet of water and biting well on shad-colored jigs.
For a daily fishing report from Darryl Morris, visit Family Fishing Trips.
Lake Catherine
For weekly flow releases from Carpenter Dam, visit www.entergy.com/hydro.
Shane Goodner, owner of Catch’em All Guide Service, said water temperature below Carpenter Dam is 50 degrees with clear conditions in the tailrace. Rainbow trout fishing has improved dramatically in the last week as quality fish are present and feeding heavily on threadfin shad. Trout are highly scattered from the dam for several miles downstream. Bank anglers should fish in periods of slack water and avoid generation times. Fast water is extremely difficult to manage from the bank. Brightly colored Power Bait, wax worms, nightcrawlers or redworms fished on the bottom or under a bobber work well in current or slack water. Fly fishermen casting egg patterns in white or orange with a strike indicator on the edges of current have done very well with catches of trout over 15 inches. Woolly buggers in black or green and micro jigs in white have been consistent producers. Trolling small crankbaits against the current has been excellent for large rainbows. With the trout stocking program in full swing, the big stripers have started showing up around the bridge. These huge fish hang around the deeper water and prey upon newly stocked trout that are sick or disoriented from the trip to the lake. Topwater activity is fierce during this time. While C-10 Redfins and Super Spooks are a mainstay for this type of fishing, smaller offerings such as 4- and 5-inch soft plastics often provoke more strikes from these monster fish. This size bait is closer to the body style of threadfin or gizzard shad normally preyed upon and offers an easy meal. Strong rods and lines are recommended with many of these fish over 20 pounds. No white bass or crappie have been caught.
