Fishing and Boating Report – April 21, 2010
Berks County
The cooler weather may have thinned the trout anglers this past weekend, but it sure didn't slow down the fishing. Anglers aboard boats at Scott's Run Lake did well catching rainbows and browns using live minnows with bobbers.

The catfish bite was on at the Blue Marsh Lake Stilling Basin, with an angler catching two big cats using liver.

Don't forget about Blue Marsh Lake for striped bass, two great methods for catching these fish are trolling lures or using liver fished deep.

Wear your lifejacket while boating on these cool waters. Be safe out there!

Northampton County

Cool weekend temperatures put the shad on hold on the Delaware River. Shad anglers had been doing well fishing flutter spoons and shad darts prior to the cooler weather. Shad angling should improve later in the week as temperatures are expected to rise.

Trout anglers have been doing very well on area waterways. Hokendauqua Creek, Saucon Creek, Monocacy Creek, Bushkill Creek, and the Lehigh Canal in Bethlehem have all been producing well. Spin anglers are catching fish on light-colored paste baits, butter worms and spinners. Fly anglers are catching fish on hare's ear and pheasant tail nymphs. Blue winged olives are still hatching on Saucon Creek and Monocacy Creek while Hendricksons have been spotted on Martins Creek.

Smallmouth bass fishing on the Lehigh River and Delaware River was slow. A few bass anglers reported catching a fish on the Lehigh River east of the PFBC Rte. 33 boat access using spinner baits this past week, but overall, few anglers have been pursuing "bronze backs."

Philadelphia County

Striped bass continue to be caught in the Delaware River. Most fish are still being caught around the Commodore Barry Bridge but fish should move north soon.

Trout season in full swing on the Wissahickon Creek.

Many shad are behind the art museum.

The ramps are in at the Arsenal Access Area. Boats are launching on a regular basis for striped bass. Most boaters are double checking safety equipment and aware the water temp is still cold at 50 degrees.

Schuylkill County

Fishing pressure has decreased now that the entire State is open to trout fishing. Anglers are catching trout in Locust Lake on minnows and worms on the bottom. The Little Schuylkill River is still producing fish on spinners and live baits. Carp are moving into spawning mode in the Schuylkill River and anglers are catching monsters on corn. Anglers are catching bullheads and channel catfish while targeting carp on the river.
