Nice one! What did you use to catch him on? Hopefully you are able to catch a bunch more before you head back up north.
here is a nice one my friend caught last year. Were you able to bring up anything else down in Florida?
Here are some more peacock bass photos. I was buy myself so I apologize for the shot angles. And yes I know the last one is not a peacock bass but what the hell i caught it on the same day! The reason I'm not holding the peacock with my hands is because there were about twenty leeches in its mouth! The canals can be pretty harsh in some areas. I played fish doctor and removed them as quick as I could hoping that there were no more in the fish so they have a harder time spreading. I took care of them suckers!![]()
nice work clif. thats a nice largemouth and peacocks
I've been catching channel cats lately. The bass bite has slowed down here in Jacksonville, where I fish.
Are you bottom fishing for them?
Great, I'll have to try that next time I am in Florida. I usually don't target channel cats but sometimes they eat my bait when I fish for tarpon in the canals. I just catch some brim early in the morning and freeze them throughout the day. Then about an hour from dusk I get them and head to the canal where I cut them up into three large sections. 1-the head, 2-the mid section including the stomach etc, 3-the tail w/ some meat. Toss a big circle hook on there and let it sit on the bottom and wait. Here is a pretty bad camera phone shot of what I usually catch in the canals.
