Capt. Art Conway of Conway's River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the mid 40's on Wednesday. The lake level was about 6 inches above the top of the dam. Crappies should be in the deep winter holes on dark days, but may run onto the shallow flats on bright days.
Look for crappies and pickerel up the major creeks over the next several weeks if the weather holds.
