Capt. Art Conway of Conway's River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen's Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the low to mid 50's on Wednesday. The lake level was even with the top of the dam. Crappie and a few white perch were scattered in the main channels in the lake, with some schools in the edges of some of the winter holes. Wright Bait Co. two inch curly tail grubs, tubes, blade baits, jigging spoons, and live minnows have been the most effective baits for crappie. Bass and a few pickerel were on the dropoffs along the weed beds or hanging around bait schools in or near the deep winter holes.
Fishing with Capt. Conway, Carolyn Conway had 16 crappie and 1 white perch.
Hollis Pruitt had 71 crappie, 7 white perch, 1 pickerel, and 5 bass.
