Hi
More ice, less drama... all-in-all a pretty good week. The "good" ice is running between 10-12 inches. Stay in the areas that your resort has marked out for your safety. There are still some significant stretches of open water (mostly, but not exclusively in the NW quadrant of the lake) that demand our respect. At this point virtually all traffic is via ATV or by foot. Go easy.
The bite has been pretty consistent so far this season - of course the morning and sunset bite gives us the best action each day, but even the mid-day has turned out some surprisingly good catches. Start in about 16 feet with a #5 or #7 Jiggin' Rap or Lindy Darter (orange, yellow) tipped with a minnow head. Vineland Bay, Roland's Bay and Pope's are worth a look. For perch, a small Gem-n-Eye or Demon works the best tipped with a waxie or Eurolarva. Northern action is best in Wahkon and Wigwam Bays. Stick to 10-12 feet with a large shiner or small sucker.

Finally, A man traveling down a country road was forced to stop before a giant puddle covering the entire road. Looking to the side of the road, the man noticed a farmer leaning on a fence. "Think it's safe to cross?" the man asked. "I reckon so," replied the farmer. The car was immediately swallowed by the puddle as the man drove in. In fact, it was so deep that he had to roll his window down to swim out of his car back to the surface. As his head broke the surface the man said to the farmer, "I thought you said I could safely drive through this puddle!" "Well, golly!" said the farmer, scratching his head. "It only come up chest-high on my ducks!"
Happy New Year!
