Why I fish

I've been fishing for 60 of my 66 years starting in a lake in NY, lakes in Maine, and then moving to Va when I was 13 years old. Those early years were fishing with my dad in NY, my dad and uncle in Maine. When we moved to the South, fishing changed with growing up in Va with fishing friends, my Brother-in-Law and now again with my many friends & family that fish saltwater in the bay and ocean. Getting my first boat in the early 70's changed my fishing from stream caught trout in the mountains of Va and to saltwater species in the Chesapeake Bay, off shore of Va and NC. During this time my son and daughter were growing up and my enjoyment changed from just me catching to the enjoyment of them catching or just enjoying being on the water. I see alot less of the marina's & fishing supply stores being open or changing hands every year due to the economy. There are regulations that change every year based upon the "whim" of politician's making decisions that are from groups that do not have current scientific information or NO scientific information. Contributions from these non-fishing groups seem fill the pockets of politicians which then these same people make the rehulations. This has got to stop in order to get the proper information into the hands of these people that make the regulations. Change is needed, BUT it must be back to the basics, honest, real, and common sense approach. Enough politics.

I retired in 2001 with the hope of enjoying the bay and ocean with my friends and family. I fish out of my boat 10-15 times a year, on other peoples boats 5-10, and charter 2-3 times. My $$ to the marina, the sport shops, gas, diesel, and motels. The bond of fishing with my friends and family is great and I would not want to lose that. AND the number 1 reason I fish is, rest and relaxation. >(((((((;>
