a way of life........a way of survival

I have been fishing in NC waters since I was three years old, I have been fortunate enough to witness countless amazing
things on the water over the last 30 years. Coming up through school, I would go fish in the surf prior to class, then throughout the day think about where I was going to go fish after school. Started working as a mate for local charter boats when I was 13 years old, yes 13, fishing with them on weekends and through the summer. In 1993 I made the decision that fishing was how I was going to make a living. Knowing it was not going to be easy, I chose this path anyway. Having thousands of hours "sea time" under my belt before I was 17, went to sea school to get my captain's license......ran my first charter in 1995 being captain. From then till now at the age of 34.....thinking back on all I have seen and acomplished, charters, tournaments, fun fishing with family and friends, commercial fishing, boat yards, repairs, bad weather streches and the slick beautiful mornings...... I would not trade any of it for nothing. I love what I do, this is the way I provide for my family and my heart. Fishing and being out on the water is simply just who I am, it is what I know. I care and respect the water along with all of it's gift's it provides. Please don't take this away.

Captain Brian Harrington, Morehead City, NC.

    Nice extreme ...

Ive been on the water since I could stand and open the cooler or fish box for dad. When I was old enough 13-14 I was on the crab boat all summer every summer . Through the years dad swayed away from the commercial thing and started chartering , Now Im still commercial on Oysters now and prolly be crabin till I get called for a job on a tug . But my roots will never go no where .... I just hope the Industry , peoples way of life , peoples way of survival also dosent go anywhere

Never known you to waste words...Very well put Captain.
It's been a pleasure to fish with you on those occasions I've been lucky enough to do so. Thanks for the writeup.
