Instead of killing an age old sport and recreation have a look at this, introduce fishing into schools, It won't work I hear you say, here in the UK a man has just been given an MBE by the Queen for his work over the last 30 + years working with Kids that have never seen a real pigeon other than a city bred flying rat.
The maths involved ( weighing, measuring) the history the biology, geography!! The planning the relaxation mostly the fun and achivement. Why cut off your nose's to spite your faces?
Use this tool with inner city kids, are we so different with the POND Atlantic between us, I think not !
Les Webber MBE works only on donations from the likes of you and me, that old bit of kit just lying around,now even fishing industry is involved,end of line stuff ETC they send it to Les, it gives an 8 year old or a school a few years of use, and most importantly gets kids off the street and somthing to aim at.

I worked for 8 years at a summer camp where we took kids from inner city Hartford, capitol of CT, and got them out on the water. I was the fishing boat but we also had a lobster vessel and a scow setup with a small otter trawl. The program still is going on, I haven't been there in about 5 years because I want to spend the summers with my own kids but it works very well. Not to many have the resources to stay involved though.
