Lewes man fined for no charter boat license



LEWES (Oct. 17, 2011) – DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement agents cited a Lewes charter boat operator today for not having a charter captain’s license.



Herbert Lee Shorthose, age 61, of Lewes, was taken into custody Oct. 17 and pled guilty to the charge in Justice of the Peace Court 3 in Georgetown. Shorthose was fined $239 and had his saltwater fishing license revoked for one year. Further charges are pending with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Under Delaware law, charter boat operators are required to purchase a charter captain’s license and a saltwater fishing license to operate in Delaware waters.

The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Enforcement Section is charged with achieving public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety.
