Georgia DNR Fall Fling
Just a quick reminder about North Georgia Trout Online's annual Fall Fling this Saturday (Nov. 5). This family-friendly event will be held at the Buford Trout Hatchery just east of Georgia 400 and right off SR-20.
The event includes several seminars and presentations as well as an on-the-water nymphing workshop...plus a legendary barbecue lunch!
During this year's Fall Fling, Yours Truly will be presenting two workshops.
The first, which starts at 8:30, focuses on "Building Your Own Dubbing Twister." It's a hands-on workshop that takes you through the process of building your own dubbing brush twister, which allows you to create custom dubbing brushes (think of them as sections of custom-made chenille which use your choice of dubbing and have a core of very fine wire) for bodies of flies ranging from small dries to larger fresh and saltwater patterns. This particular dubbing brush twister features interchangeable "dubbing troughs," as they're called, which makes it a snap to make different sized dubbing brushes. It's neat, if I say so myself! There's a $10 materials fee for this one to help cover the component and printed material costs.
Then, at 10:15, I'll be leading a fly tying workshop focusing on tying flies for Delayed Harvest fishin g in Georgia and North Carolina! In this workshop, which will continue until lunchtime, we'll tie up several of the most useful patterns for DH fishing. And the timing is perfect, too, since Georgia's DH season opened Nov. 1! No charge for this one, though donations to cover materials are always welcome.
You can sign up for either of these workshops on the NGTO site (look for the corresponding thread under the "EVENTS" heading) or just drop me an email or give me a call.
More info on these and other Fall Fling events can be found at the website ngto.org under the EVENTS heading.
Also: You'll be excited to know that we have some exciting fly fishing related events coming up through the program at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church, including our next Friday Fly Tying and Fellowship on Nov. 11. Watch your email in the next few days for details.
Meanwhile, I hope to see you Saturday at the North Georgia Trout Online event!
Best, Steve Hudson
