These sterndrives are 100% aftermarket with parts sourced in large volumes by the manufacturer, Sterndrive Engineering. Costs are contained by "eliminating the middleman". I'm a little skeptical, have you had any problems with these drives? A. We have sold literally thousands of these units since 2004, yes there were a few issues in the past with regards to impellers, u-joints, and paint issues but I can honestly say that those problems have been worked out. Given the shear volume of sterndrives produced and sold all over the world we have had very few complaints. This is a quality product. Q. Can I install this outdrive myself? A. While it's difficult to judge a person's mechanical ability we have succesfully guided hundreds of customers through assembling and installing a new sterndrive. There are no special tools needed, we provide detailed instructions with photographs, and tech help is just a phone call away. Q. What is the warranty and how does it work? A. Sterndrive engineering (SEI, the manufacturer) covers all of their sterndrives for a period of three years. This is the best sterndrive warranty in the industry. You will be covered for defects in materials and workmanship but above and beyond that the manufacturer will cover damage to their drives for damage due to low oil, seal leakage, even impact! A no-fault warranty. SEI will, at their discretion, repair or replace any unit returned to them within the warranty period. In the unlikely event of a covered failure you would be required to return the damaged sterndrive half (usually just an upper or lower) to the warranty department in Florida. Return shipping is not covered unless the failure occured within two weeks of delivery (It's unlikely to have a failure at all but past experience dictates that if a defect is present it will show up right away).
