The roof is constructed with commercial roof material and has a lifespan of 25 years. The roof was built at a cost of approx. $15k in material alone. The roof is so strong you could drive a car on it. At one time there was a large swimming pool on the roof, however due to high costs of the upkeep and maintenance of the pool including filters, and heaters etc, and not using it enough it was removed. The barge itself is constructed with anti-fouling fiberglass over oak wood at a cost of over $25k in material alone and was built to hold 100 tons and weighing in on only 40 tons a second floor would be no problem. The barge is built with 4 separate compartments that are sealed off from one another, therefore if there would ever be a leak in one compartment it would not spill over to the other compartments. Each compartment is equipped with a bilge pump. The exterior walls are constructed with 2x6â??s finished with ¾ inch plywood, tar paper, R-9 insulation sheet, then vinyl siding. The inside of the walls is finished with R-13 insulation between the beams, another ¾ inch plywood, and drywall. The interior walls between the room separations is also constructed the same way with insulation and 2 sheets of ¾ inch plywood to act as a sound barrier. All windows are double pane. The house was built with plans of a walk in freezer to keep heating and air conditioning costs low and to keep out outside noise. It also helps if you want to watch movies with surround sound late at night without waking the neighbors. The second bedroom is currently being used as shop space with a built in workbench with storage. This could easily be converted into a bedroom or office space if needed.
