1986 Carver 2897 Mariner 28'/32' OAL, VERY GOOD COND.! Vehicle Description 1986 Carver Mariner 2897 28â?? Length, 31â??8â?? Overall Length 11â??1â?? Beam, 34â?? Draft Was $24,900 Reduced to $22,500 I have found my next boat and am Looking to sell this boat QUICK! NOW A LOW RESERVE AUCTION.The boat is being offered locally at $19,997. My reserve price is well below this. Even at $19,997 it is a steal! I have found a great deal on my next boat so I am passing along a great deal to the next owner of this boat. HISTORY OF THE VESSEL: The boat was purchased new in 1987 by the first owner who used the boat for a year and a half before placing it in storage due to lack of use. The boat sat for a couple of years before the second owners purchased it. On one of the first outings with the boat, the couple who I bought if from got caught in a bad storm and subsequently one of them were not keen on going out after that. The boat was primarily used as a floating cottage. After a few years of very light use, they put it in inside storage for a few years. The boat was taken out for a couple of years, and then put back in storage for a couple of years. I purchased the boat in the spring of 2008 after it sat in storage for three years. The boat needed a lot of cleaning and general maintenance due to sitting unused for some time. The plus side of not being used much is that it is in great condition both mechanically and cosmetically. The same mechanic has cared for the boat for most of its life. Between my mechanic and the previous owners we have estimated the boat to have around 350-400 hours on it due to such little use (not originally equipped with hour meters). THIS IS A 100% FRESHWATER ONLY BOAT. The boat was surveyed in early 2008 (copy of survey on board for your inspection). The boat surveyed out at $22,500 prior to any of the upgrades I made to the boat. I am VERY confident that even in this economy, the boat would survey out at a higher value considering the improvements that I have made. UPGRADES (Spring 2008 unless otherwise noted): Engines: Over $2500 in engine maintenance including full tune up, new plugs, plug wires, fully rebuilt carburetors, impellers, thermostat, new starter, fuel filters, etc., new batteries in 2007 Plumbing: All new color coded PEX plumbing with easy snap connectors, all new upscale faucets for all three sinks, new shower head and faucet, new water pump, new instant hot water heater, new jabsco head Comfort/Convenience: Brand new 16k BTU air conditioner and heater, flat panel LCD TV, DVD Player, Poly Planar CD and new speakers (expandable system), under counter lights, built in microwave and toaster/pizza oven, wall mounted trash can for use with grocery bags, storage and organizational baskets, new rugs, new cockpit and bridge carpet, cuisinart coffee maker, teak cockpit storage door, teak rod holders, teak drink holders, new canvas windshield cover, new isinglass and repaired canvas, premium cutting board that removes to expose storage area, portable butane stove. Safety: New premium bumpers, new throwable PFD, plenty of new PFDâ??s, new safety flares (09), new ship to shore radio, new handheld ship to shore radio, swim ladder (upgraded for safety), new aft bilge pump, new lines. SUMMARY: This boat is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. The engines have an estimated 350-400 hours on them and they purr like its 1986 all over again. This boat will be of great service to the next owners for many many years. Carverâ??s are well built boats with comfortable living arrangements. Assuming this boat sells, my next boat will also be a carver as I have been that impressed with the quality of this boat. I am an honest person and want to make all known issues known to any potential buyer. I want someone to be very happy with this boat and want you to know of the following issues with the boat. These unaddressed issues are why I am willing to take a loss on the boat! 1. The inboard stringers under the cabin sole (3/8â?? plywood with over ¼â?? of glass on each side) have signs of moisture and deterioration. I knew this when I bought the boat and am comfortable with my surveyors recommendations and advice on this purchase. This boat would pass a USCG certification without any problems due to being very well built. I would be happy to show you where the issues lie in person. I have had an estimate of $3000 to have this fixed and will most likely have this done this winter if I do not sell the boat. This repair will undoubtedly increase the value of the boat by a minimum of the cost of the repair and most likely MUCH more. 2. The drain pan for the sliding door had a leak many years ago and some water caused a very small portion of the very forward portion of the starboard engine stringer to have dry rot. This is a very small portion and could easily be addressed with an epoxy repair system. The leak was fixed, the moisture eliminated, and the portion in question was isolated. Again, I would be happy to show you this area. 3. The swim platform has some evidence of some soft spots near the hardware locations. Itâ??s an easy epoxy fix or winter re-coring project. I am a couple Twinkies shy of 300# and I have no concerns with this, but it should be addressed in the next year or two. 4. Canvas could use a once over to address any popped snaps or snags. The isinglass was reconditioned last year and the canvas could use a shot of waterproofing (easy fix). The canvas and isinglass are in very good condition. 5. The port tachometer stopped working earlier this season. Probably a connection at the engine or the unit itself (easy fix). I rely on the engine synchronizers and have not been too concerned with fixing this yet. 6. The exterior carpeting is new this year and I have not had it bound yet. Not necessary, but would probably look nice. If I were to keep the boat, I would not bother as it is perfectly fine in my opinion. Sweeps up with no snags. 7. The shaft seals are leaking a little more than I would like and I will be having them repacked in the spring if I do not sell the boat. 8. I am loosing my butt on this boat (bad for me, good for you) to take advantage of someone else loosing their butt on their boat! For serious inquiries to view the vessel and a demonstration, please call Jim at (419) 515-0303 AUCTION TERMS. VERY IMPORTANT. READ BEFORE BIDDING.1. If you are placing a bid, you are agreeing to purchase the vessel if that bid is over the reserve price and/or at the buy it now price.2. The boat is in excellent condition. However, it is a 1986 so it has normal wear and tear. The boat is being sold AS IS, WHERE IS. The boat must be removed from the marina as soon as possible after the completion of the sale. I would be happy to take the boat to a lift in the Sandusky/Marblehead area for you to have transported at your expense.3. A non refundable deposit of $750 is due within 24 hours of the close of the auction. The deposit must be paid via Pay Pal, Cash, or Certified Check. If you are the winning bidder and you come to get the boat and change your mind, I will allow you to back out of the sale but will keep the deposit so I can re-list the boat and cover my hassle. NO EXCEPTIONS.4. Payment for the boat, less the deposit, is due prior to you taking ownership of the vessel. Payment is due within 7 days of the end of the auction. The title is held at a local bank so the transaction could take place there for everyone's comfort.5. The boat must be vacated from the marina within two weeks of the end of the auction unless other arrangements are made prior to the end of the auction.6. If you are having the vessel shipped via truck, I would gladly assist in the logistics of the boat as I am sure it can be a pain to do this. 7. The boat can be viewed by yourself or a certified marine surveyor by appointment. The boat is located on Kelleys Island, OH 43438. 8. The boat is also for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time should a sale take place prior to the end of the auction.9. Please ask any questions prior to bidding.10. Photos are provided to represent the condition of the vessel. Personal items not attached to the boat are not included in the sale. Please ask if you have any questions. The TV and Microwave come with the boat. ALSO.....I have a copy of the survey done in 2008 available via email. I also have additional current photos on photo bucket as well as photo's of when I bought the boat. Please email me if interested. Thanks, Jim419.515.0303
