1989 Sumerset 65' Houseboat, Twin V8s, Perfect In & Out Vehicle Description 1989 Sumerset 16' x 65' Custom Houseboat loaded with amenities, upgrades, and furnishings. Meticulously maintained from bow to stern. Perfect condition. 177 Hours! Needs absolutely nothing. All aboard!!! ABOUT THE SELLER ... Hello! My name is Michael Blanton, eBay member huntersfriend.com. I've agreed to help sell this beautiful Houseboat on behalf of our good family friends, Roger and Sue Spradlin of Prestonsburg, KY. I've gathered as much information as I could for creating this eBay listing, but I'll admit I'm not much of an expert on luxury Houseboats. So, I'll do my best to function as liaison should you have any questions or need additional information. Feel free to contact me directly: MIKE BLANTON -Helper Home Phone: 606-297-2180 Home Email: theblantons@foothills.net Work Phone: 606-297-1011 Work Email: mike@huntersfriend.com (best email) However, your questions can surely be answered more quickly and thoroughly by calling the boat owner directly. Roger is retired, so he can usually be reached during the day. He's also one heck of a nice guy, so don't hesitate to call him. Trust me...he LOVES to talk about that boat. :) Roger's not a "computer person." So to get in contact with Roger, please call: ROGER SPRADLIN -Owner Home Phone: 606-886-2672 Cell Phone: 606-791-7027 WHY THE OWNERS ARE SELLING ... Roger and Sue are 78 and 79 respectively. They have been houseboat enthusiasts throughout their retirement, and they also own a nice home in the town of Prestonsburg. Unfortunately, they are finding that maintaining both "places" is becoming increasingly difficult. As you will see in the photos, Roger and Sue are exceedingly meticulous folks who have maintained this craft (inside and out) to white-glove standards at all times. You could literally eat off of the engine compartment floor - or any of the floors for that matter - of this boat. But running such a tight ship is a physically taxing venture to continue in perpetuity. So they've reluctantly decided to sell. VESSEL HISTORY ... Roger and Sue Spradlin are the 2nd owners of this boat. The boat was originally ordered from and custom built by Sumerset Houstboats in 1989 for Mr. Charlie Collins of Prestonsburg, KY. It was delivered to Paintsville Lake and has remained in Paintsville Lake its entire life. Paintsville Lake is a very clean, deep, & clear fresh-water reservoir. So this boat has never been exposed to salt water, muddy shallows, or corrosive environments. Mr. Collins moved in 2005 and sold the boat to Roger and Sue Spradlin who bought the boat as an upgrade to their previous house boat (which was also immaculate, incidentally). BOAT LOCATION This boat is currently docked at the Paintsville Lake Marina (Slip #E-23) in Eastern Kentucky just off US23. There's no substitute for seeing this boat for yourself. I strongly suggest you call Roger and Sue to arrange a tour (606-886-2672). Words and photos cannot do this immaculate houseboat true justice. INFO ON THE HOUSEBOAT There are literally hundreds of features, mechanical attributes, upgrades, and amenities to cover. So rather than write a forever-streaming list, I've broken the following sections into highlights. I also had Roger explain each of his photos and point out the key features shown. Again, there are surely things we have missed. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. The upper deck features a 16'x20' canopy. Includes the large table you see here along with 4 swivel chairs, 1 recliner, and all the matching cushions. The upper deck also has a Direct TV Dish, Spot Light w/Remote, and 2 large storage boxes. This is a perfect place for entertaining with plenty of room for everyone! FRONT PORCH (Bow Deck) The full carpeted front porch features a ceiling fan, brass bell, life ring, docking pole, and a large storage box under the deck. The furniture you see here comes with the boat, including a 54" round table with 6/chairs and matching covers for all ... including new enclosure curtains. The front porch has sliding door access to the interior front room and double catwalk access to the stern. BACK PORCH (Stern Deck) The carpeted lower stern deck features a custom stainless grill with hideaway tank and cutting board, a large easy-climbing swim ladder, and even a jet-ski hoist and rack. Also comes with table and 4 chairs. The back porch has sliding door access to the interior master bedroom, double catwalk access to the bow, and access to the top deck ladder. ENGINE ROOM This boat features twin V8 350 Chevy Engines. As you can see in the photo at right, these engines look just like they did when new. According to the meter, there are 177 hours on one engine and 181 hours on the other. That's VERY little time ... equivalent to less than 10,000 miles if these engines were used in a car or truck. Even underneath the motors ... it's clean as a cookie sheet. Additionally, the engine room features an automatic fuel-odor and fire extinguishing system and this area also gives access to a lake pump, which allows you to pump lake water for boat washing when away from the dock. GENERATOR The generator is a Westerbeke 12.5KW 4-Cyl Gas unit which provides plenty of power for everything on board. Like the other mechanical systems on this boat, the generator is perfectly clean and like new. Take a look at the large photo of the generator compartment. Notice that even the GROOVES of the hatch - where dirt, leaves, bugs, etc. would normally accumulate - is perfectly clean. The condition of this boat is simply amazing. COCKPIT The cockpit of this boat is well laid out and very easy to use. Cockpit features the complete set of gauges, 2-way radio, depth finder, hydraulic steering, AM/FM radio (speakers throughout the vessel), and a matching Captain's chair. FRONT/LIVING ROOM The main living room features new drapes, a full couch that makes a queen bed, a leather recliner, TV/VCR, and a ceiling fan. Carpet is in beautiful shape. The room is much bigger than this photo makes it look. The security system CMT is in this room as well. GALLEY/KITCHEN The galley is nothing short of a full modern kitchen. Nothing is downsized. Kitchen features an Electric Range with large oven, dishwasher, refrigerator with ice maker, built in microwave, trash compactor, a double sink, with plenty of countertop space and beautiful oak cabinets. GALLEY/DINING Across from the kitchen is the dining area, featuring a hand-make oak dining table (matches coffee table in living room) with 4 chairs, wet bar with ceramic counter top, and additional oak cabinets for ever MORE storage. Very classy look. MASTER BEDROOM The master bedroom features a queen bed with memory foam, 2 closets, bedside tables and lamps, ceiling fan, TV and drawer storage. The room also accesses the rear porch (stern deck). BEDROOM 2 The 2nd bedroom features a queen bed with memory foam and a nice closet. This room can be converted back to use another half-bunk (as originally configured). The materials are in the hull and come with the boat. BEDROOM 3 The 3rd bedroom is the smaller bedroom, with 2 single bunk beds and a clothes closet. Like all the other rooms, this room is oak decor. HEAD/BATHROOM The bathroom has all the necessities: shower stall with glass door and brass trim, corner sink with full mirror, under sink storage cabinet, Raritan electric marine toilet, vinyl flooring and shelving. Bathroom is in the oak decor as well. HEAD/BATHROOM (ALT VIEW) There's really nothing more to say about the bathroom, but I didn't want to leave this space blank. And I think it's worth noting that the marine/military use of the word "head" just seems like a distasteful way to say bathroom. UTILITY ROOM The utility room has a washer and dryer, ice maker, storage shelves, fishing rod rack, and room for the sweeper. There is also a small linen closet in the hallway (see extra photos). As I said at the top, there may be literally dozens of features, amenities, and technical elements I've failed to note. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call. Better yet ... come see! MUST SEE THIS BOAT I've personally been on this boat, and it's simply flawless. I know everyone who wants to sell something makes superlative claims, but if you knew Roger Spradlin, you could better understand how this isn't just a pitch. Roger is meticulous about everything he does. Roger is the kind of guy who's car is always washed and waxed; the guy who's lawn is always manicured and edged, every flower in his yard has new mulch neatly around it's base ... THAT kind of guy. And his wife is just the same. It's just not an exaggeration to say that this boat is in perfect shape, because Roger and Sue would have it no other way. This boat literally needs nothing. If you can find a scratch on this boat, it's just because Roger hasn't spotted it and waxed it out yet. The boat is as nice (probably nicer) as the day it was made. Please ... come see for yourself!!! MOVING & DOCKING CONSIDERATIONS Moving & docking considerations are NOT included in the price of this Houseboat. If you intend to move the houseboat to another lake, I recommend you contact Sumerset Houseboats at requests@sumerset.com or (888) 786-3773 for a list of qualified Houseboat Movers in your area. While I presume that most houseboat shoppers already know this, it might be prudent to add that moving a houseboat of this size is a significant operation ... not something you can do without professional help. So consider your moving expenses before committing to purchase this boat. If you intend to keep this boat docked at Paintsville Lake, please contact Paintsville Lake Marina at 606-297-LAKE to inquire about the availability of dock rental space. It has been customary at Paintsville Lake that buyers of a houseboat (docked at the marina) keep the existing dock space ... if they so wish. However, this rule may have changed and/or there may be other details to consider. Please contact Paintsville Lake Marina for more information. SALE & PAYMENT TERMS Winning bidder should contact Roger Spradlin immediately after auction close. Obviously, arranging payment for an item like this is a bit more involved than picking up a used iPod. Payment is due in full within 5 working days of auction end and unit will only be released to verified/cleared funds. So do not bid if your finances are not in-order and please be a straight-shooter. Mr. Spradlin may be 78 years old, but his mind is sharp as a razor. If you don't have the money, you can't have the boat ... no matter the story. After the said 5 day period, Mr. Spradlin reserves the right to relist and resell the boat at his discretion. NOTE: Mr. Spradlin is NOT a boat dealer (nor is the lister). So sale price does not include buyer's applicable responsibility for taxes, insurance, closing or finance fees, moving expenses, docking fees, or other costs which may be incurred after the sale.
