1978 Tupolev A-3 350HP Aero patrol/rescue boat Vehicle Description 1978 Tupolev A-3 350HP airsleigh Aero patrol/rescue boat We are happy to present 1978 Tupolev A-3 aerosan. This boat is high-speed extra-road all-season transportation using amphibious propeller-driven hybrid ski-boat. Boat equipped with 350 HP airplane engine. She was designed to rescue downed pilots in the Artic circle. Capable of speeds over 120 mph some called her the flying boat. The Russian engineers spent lot of time and money testing and on the production of these vessels. Each was powered by a MP 14 airplane engine, enabling them to travel at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. This approach gave the required â??amphibious capabilityâ?? as the machine could move both on snow and water and so, in 1961, began the testing and evolution of the new amphibious propeller-driven sleighs which would eventually be given the designation A-3. Testing and development took three years before the first series of the A-3 was released in 1964 and was produced until the early 1980s.
