It listed by the Port Bow and took on water through one tide exchange. I recovered the boat within 24 hours. The stern remained high and dry. The engine was immediately pickled and the starter and alternator were rebuilt. Some of the wall paneling in the forward areas was adversely affected and should be replaced. Set-up to cruise the world in a custom newly outfitted yacht for a fraction of the price of a production boat! This yacht is valued at $285,000 replacement cost. It is offered at a reduced price due to there being a few jobs left to complete. These projects involve installing the generator head, refrigeration compressors & plumbing the installed Watermaker. Prior to the theft, the boat was in a condition worth $185k. Value determined by consensus between Brokers, Surveyors & Insurance Appraisers. After the incident value obviously decreased. I actually sold the boat in June 08. The buyer moved on board with his family, 7 people including his aged Mother-in-law. We installed 4 4D batteries, cleaned things up & had a mechanic start on the engine. Then the buyer skipped. We're not sure why, but suspect he had business issues that called for him to return to New Orleans. We were able to reach him initially, then he changed his contact information and left us with unanswered ?s. And of course, an unfinished project. The boat just rides at anchor waiting for some TLC. My work & several other boats take priority these days. This boat impresses the people that actually visit. It's a great family boat. Extremely stable, seakindly motion, solid & safe. Even the lifelines are oversized with beefy through-bolted stanchions. It's all relatively new. Built with low maintenance as a goal. We've had a dozen people on board without feeling crowded, but it best fits a couple or a family of 4. (The folks that bought it & skipped lived on board with 7 of them & I brought 2 workers with me each day. We had room to work without feeling put upon.) With a consideration for center of motion, the main stateroom is in the middle of the boat. We've slept there comfortably through 60 mph winds & accompanying sea state. The V-berth needed lee cloths, but the main stateroom was relatively stable. BTW: the boat has ridden out 5 named hurricanes with no damage. I set 3 anchors for 4 of them & tied to the center of a canal for Charlie. The other boats in the anchorage ended up on shore. This boat was designed to a standard rarely seen. I guess it shows I'm impressed with it. I've sailed since my early teens, was on the original Hobie Cat racing team, lived on board while I went to college, worked in more boat yards than I care to count, put in 1000's of miles sailing & state with conviction, this boat is one of the most impressive I've known. This hull is unique. It was built by John Samson, the designers son. It is essentially a composite of hand laid glass over a modified ferrocement core. Best of both Worlds. Details are in my previous email. With a solid core bonded to the layup, there are none of the problems caused by flexing in traditional FRP construction. This hull is strong as steel without oxidation problems. JS built himself a sister ship & cut free. Last year he was in Indonesia. Physical location: San Carlos Bay. Southern end of Pine Island, St James City, Just South of Henley Canal. You can Google driving directions to the Waterfront Restaurant, St James City. I use Google Earth for a satellite photo showing the land & bay. The coordinates are N26, 29.14' x W82, 04.89'. More... |
