41' Morgan Out Island Sailboat in paradise NO RESERVE Vehicle Description Up for auction today is a real classic, American made sailboat. She is a 1974 Morgan 41 foot Out Island. She was made back in the day when boat manufacurers weren't cheap with the resin. Her hull is overbuilt, and very thick. Nearly an inch in most places, more along her bottom. There were no blistering issues with these early Morgans either, and this boat is no exception. The boat has a beam of nearly 14 feet! The draft is 4.5 feet. 'ABUNDANCE' is currently in St. Thomas, USVI, at a very nice east end marina. You will have the option of signing a new contract at this marina, moving her to a different marina, or, for a fee, I will deliver her any where on the planet you wish. Her layout is/was very popular with the Caribbean cruising set, as her center cockpit design allows for a large aft cabin, and her beam is carried nearly all the way astern. Specifically, 'ABUNDANCE' is what is known as a walk over design. This means that the aft cabin and forward salon and v berth are seperated by a full athwartship engine compartment, with full bulkheads running her full beam. There is no companionway front to back, therefore, one "walks over" using the huge center cockpit to transit fore and aft. Her cockpit is fully enclosed with intergrated bimini, curtains, and dodger, making for all weather passage from cabin to cabin. It also allows for an extra 'room' which is excellent for just lounging at cocktail time, or catching the sunrise or sunset. The engine room is also roomy as sailboats go as it runs the full beam. All of the engines and systems are located there, and as a 6'3", 230# man, it is easy enough to get in to perform maintenance. The engine room contains her main engine, a Perkins 4-108, from 1982, rebuilt in 2004. approx. 700 hours on it. There is also a fairly recent Northern Lights 5kw genset, hot water heater, brand new ultra heavy duty battery bank, main fuel tank (60 gal.), and domestic water pump located in the engine compartment. The center cockpit helm area is above the engine compartment, which is accessed thru doors in both front and back cabins. Entering the forward salon from the cockpit, there is a set of stairs leading down from the starboard side. Immediately on your port side is the small but efficient galley. Double basin sink, three burner Galley Maid stove with oven, and ample storage space for your galley needs. Moving forward on the port side, there is a dinette that seats six, and convets to a double bunk. Forward of that is the first of two full heads, with manual flush, household sized new bowl, and stand-up shower. Forward still is the twin v-berth, again, with massive amounts of storage. Moving back to the companionway stairs again, and on the starboard side is the dual 12/120 volt top access refrigeration unit. The 120v side is a year old, the 12v side maybe three. It works awesome. Best fridge on a boat I ever saw. Above the counter-height fridge is the microwave oven and more storage. Mounted above that is the 10 cd changer, stereo head, and VHF radio. Forward from there is the large settee, which is at least 6' 3" long, and is well suited for a quick nap while making passage. From there, forward is a hanging locker, and storage locker before moving into the forward v-berth once again. Ok, back to the cockpit. Facing the stern, the access steps are on the port side. Down into the Queen sized master cabin, with full athwartship bunk. On your right is a storage cabinet with drawers. To your left is the other full head. Manual flush toliet and stand-up shower. There is an abundance of over bunk storage running both sides, and a large cabinet across the stern of the cabin. She has Awlgrip paint inside and out from 2005, still clean and fresh. Interior is white, replacing the dark faux wood grain that came from the factory, making her very bright and cheerful inside. There are several non-opening ports in each cabin, as well as operable overhead hatches for light and ventilation. All opening hatches have screens. Teak and Holly sole, in pretty good shape. Both cabins are air-conditioned, seperate Cruisair units, 1980's vintage, but very operational, and cool as a cucumber. Absolutely leak-proof thru deck mast seal. There are but two minor port leaks on the inside. Otherwise she is dry. She has new main sail and 150 jib from 2004-5. New standing rigging from same era. Running rigging is in great condition also. She is sloop rig, with roller furlong jib. Winches are original, but servicable. Her bimini enclosure is new 2004, and in almost new condition. Her deck and topside were Awlgripped in 2005, and is still fresh. There are two power davits on her stern. Newer lifelines. Electric vertical anchor capstan, with foot pedal control. 200 feet 3/8 bbb main tackle with CRQ anchor, and Fortess second, with 50 feet of chain and 150 feet of 3/4 nylon. BBQ grill, rail mount. No dinghy with her, but we have her dockside. 9.8 Nissan, and 4.0 Yamaha, not included, but negotiable. Her bottom was barrier coated 2005. She has good bottom paint, no growth, but needs repainted. Full keel, with three blade prop. Her 120v wiring was redone 2004. 12v panel redone 2009. Waste tankage 65 gallons, in two tanks, new 2007. Aux fuel tank, 40 gals. new 2007. Total fuel capacity 100 gals. Has twin water tanks 120 gals. total. Electric water heater. Functional autohelm, GPS, and remote VHF at helm. Adequate wind guage. As you know, electronics are obsolete in a year after new. What she has is adequate. She is not without her flaws though. Major ones as follows. Her bottom paint, while decent, and working, could use renewed. Her seacocks, many are frozen. I have all new cocks, and thru hulls for her, but haven't had the chance to haul and replace. As mentioned, two minor water leaks thru ports inside. Could probably use updating of all ports, to be honest. Brightwork on deck in good shape, but needs varnished. A small soft spot or two on deck, nothing serious. One small soft spot on forward cabin sole. Morgans were never known to be the fastest, or best sailers around, but they have always been known to be the most comfortable boats going. Mine is Captain owned and maintained. She is well suited for worldwide crusing, or as a getaway place in paradise. Anchored, on a mooring, or underway she delivers the comfort and convenience of a land based home. Alongside the dock, she is virtually a floating two bed, two bath condo, that moves. Comparables here in St. Thomas are on the market for 69 to 79k. Their condition is unknown to me. Mine is in great, turn-key and go condition. We have about 80k into ours, but are reasonable about what we can expect to get out of her, especially in this ecomony. I am sure there are many things I have missed in my description. Please ask any question you wish prior to bidding. Here is the way I am going to work this auction. If you get to a point where you want to see her before bidding, I will help you as best I can finding affordable short term accomodation, and transportation. Once there has been a successful bid, and the auction ends, I will require a good faith deposit of $2000.00 within 48 hours of auction end. $500.00 of that is non-refundable. The successful bidder can then come here and I will put you up for a few days so you can see that you have in fact, bought a gem. There are several indepenent Marine Surveyors on-island. The cost of any haul-out and survey will be covered by YOU. Upon your acceptance of the boat, we will formalize a contact for sale, the balance of the purchase price will be due in seven days, and you will be given a Bill of Sale after full payment. There is no title for boats here in the USVI. The Bill of Sale is the only document you need. She is a USCG Documented Vessel, and the Bill of Sale is what you will need to transfer that to your name. As an added bonus, there is no sales tax here either. If you come down and inspect the boat, and she is not what you want, the $2000.00 good faith money will be refunded, except for $500.00 to cover my costs. If you sign a purchase contract with me, and complete the deal, the full 2k will go towards purchase price. If you reneg, or break contact after signing the purchase agreement, you will recieve zero of the deposit money. I am very serious about selling this boat. You need to be serious about bidding on it. I will attempt to answer any and all questions for you, and help you understand what this boat is. If you win this item, and do not put up the deposit money, I will report you to Ebay, and go after you with any tools Ebay has. Please don't waste your time, my time, or an interested buyer's time unless you are for real. You may also call me at 239 641 8607 to discuss anything about the boat, or transaction. Jeff.
