Windspeed 18 Catamaran (with Hobie and Prindle parts) Vehicle Description Up for your consideration are a Windspeed 18 Catamaran and Trailer. Relisted item, buyer unable to complete transaction. "Frankencat" as it has been called has served its purpose well for a casual sailor. This listing is subject to early termination up until the point that the reserve is met. This catamaran and trailer are for sale locally. Once the reserve has been met all local sales will be terminated or suspended. Local sale conditions include a possible trade option for a recreational kayak (or kayaks?) 12 foot or longer, single or tandem, as part of a deal. Who knows, the cash may even go your way for the right deal. The catamaran should be considered a mini project (many pieces and parts were gathered, but there may still be some parts needed to fully complete the boat). A Pennsylvania Title for the catamaran is in our possession. The trampoline needs installed. A brand new custom made one is included. The buyer will need to provide the lines (ropes) for the lacing. The trampoline is a two-piece design and includes hiking straps. The mast is 28 feet high (or long as it is in the picture). The profile is a 3 inch by 5 inch oval. The spreader has an overall width of 24 inches; the wires are about 10 and 1/2 inches out from the mast. The mast appears to be filled with floatation foam. The mast rigging needs to be adapted/adjusted to use the Hobie forestay acquired as a replacement. The sail bag is brown and is approximately 10 feet long and 16 inches wide. The original main sail is included. The main sail is blue in color and has removable battens. The main sail is generally crisp for it's age. I do not know how much it has been stretched out from use. The main sail is very usable, but not in pristine condition (remember it is from 1984). The main sail is a "California" style rig. There is no boom to bash against your head :). There is a jib (white) from a Coronado 15 included. The jib is crisp, but has some minor dirt and stains. The rudders need the lines installed to raise and lower them. The rudders should probably be refinished. The hulls need cleaned from being in storage. There are some older repairs that were done to the hulls, they look okay from 20 feet away, but are visible up close. A mast float (Hobie Baby Bob style and size) is included, but has never been installed. A small loop handle style tiller extension is included. There are two (2) trapeze wires mounted to the mast. There are NO trapeze harnesses included. There are NO PFDs included. The buyer should assume that all halyards and lines need replaced or restrung. There is a small Harkin Roller Furler included (I do not know if it is complete). A set of Prindle cross-bars are included (a front trampoline was going to be added). By design there are NO centerboards. There may be some small pieces and parts that are missing for the rigging. There are NO running lights on this boat. There is NO motor or motor mount on the boat. There are small inspection/storage access ports at the rear of each hull. The front cross member has a minor bow to it. I do not see any visible kinks in the cross member, so the structural integrity of the extrusion is generally intact and has been more than adequate to support the mast. It is probably only a major concern if you are planning on doing high performance or competitive sailing. I discussed the cross member with a couple of sailing friends and several approaches could be taken to address the issue: 1. Replace the cross member. The Prindle cross bar is about an inch or so shorter. To maintain hull alignment one should shorten the rear member an equivalent length. 2. Adding the front trampoline would prevent the hulls from flexing which is what contributes to a bow of this nature. 3. Find someone with a frame machine and try to remove the bow. It is possible that straightening the cross bar may actually weaken the extruded cross bar. The trailer is in good condition: A Pennsylvania Title for the trailer is in hand. The trailer was titled in Pennsylvania in 2005; it is a 1980â??s something trailer. Before titling, the trailer had new bearings, hubs, rims and tires installed. All new lights were added as part of the titling and inspection process. The trailer has been towed about 20 miles since it was titled. There are four rollers for the boat on the trailer. They exhibit some of the effects of aging. Bearings were greased last year and have not been in the water since they were replaced in 2005. There are "bearing buddies" on the trailer. The boat and trailer have been covered and elevated for winter storage. I am not a trained sailor and do not know all of the terminology, so you may want to ask your questions in plain language or make arrangements to come see the boat and trailer. Condition is a very subjective matter. I have described the boat and trailer from what I consider to be a reasonable person's point of view. Buyers are encouraged to ask questions prior to end of the listing. The boat and trailer will be transferred to the buyer subject to the laws and procedures mandated by the State of Pennsylvania. The buyer is fully responsible for the transportation of the boat and trailer. Including any pre-trip preparations. A $150.00 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of purchase. The balance due may be paid in cash or by cashier's check (US bank) within 10 days of the end of the auction. If picking up the boat before the 10 days are up, the buyer may pay in cash at time of transfer of ownership. The boat and trailer may not be transferred or picked up until all funds have been paid and cleared. The boat will need to be paid for, transferred, and picked up within 14 days after the end of the auction unless prior arrangements have been made. Preferred payment method for the non-refundable deposit is PayPal. IF full payment is made via PayPal, the payment must clear before the boat and trailer will transfer. If there is a problem, or if we have overlooked a major flaw, please contact us and weâ??ll work together to correct the situation. The eBay feedback system is for the benefit of all of us. If you leave feedback for us, we will leave feedback for you. Thanks for looking and good luck.
