Your thoughts on Torium 30
Picked up a Shimano Torium 30 on sale today, couldn't pass it up $149.00
What are your thoughts on a matching rod ? I fish inshore and offshore in NJ. Thanks in advance. Jim |

I'm using a Torium 30 on a Trevela XH jigging rod. Only used it once so far and it worked really well. Landed several AJ's with the biggest topping 70lbs.
I would think it would be a good reel for light trolling as well if matched to a different rod.

Trevala jig rods, we have 2 lighter setups for bluefins and 2 heavier setups for canton tuna jigging. I'd upgrade the drag, they are crap stock. We used the lighter setups on 30-35lb stripers and they whooped their buts in no time. The drag stinks though, even on those fish it squeeks and squeels when tightened a bit. Upgrading the drag got rid of that and made them much smoother when drag is pulled. Awesome powerful reel though, we were very impressed by them this season. They are the only non Avet reels allowed on my boat. Had too many problems with other brands.

toriums are great reels i would refer u to the trevala jigging rods they make to series the f series is a hundred dollars more they have a nicer grip and a little more backbone to them. the regular series cost a $100 to $150.
where did you buy this reel for $150 ?

I googled shimano torium30 and on the second page there was a sale by wallmart for 149.00.
I've used it the past three weeks drum fishing in cape may it it was flawless, great reel.
