winter tackle maintenance(?wrong forum)

A couple small items for a winter day. Roller guides--do they actually roll? How many times have you stuck your finger in to find the rollers are not working. I just take a piece of black cord and roll it back forth in each one and apply a little drop of oil around outside of roller to help.Next the reel seats and rod clamps. May not look like much corrosion but when you start braking it down it looks kinda ugly.
Lube this stuff up every year and when buying new reels and it makes it easy. I clean with flitz and then lube with grease, even the reel seat to reel spot and reel seat to rod and threads in rod and clamp screws. I hit the rods with a coat of wax and i swear it makes them easier to wash up all season long. Lots of details to do but it makes no fishing days pass and keeps things easy to service when the season is in full swing.

great post! if you have time, grind down a crescent wrench for the lug bolts. it works great!

wrench

great idea. was wondering if there was a special tool for that. As usual you are the man in this area. Also forgot to mention to polish inside the roller guide area where the line exits. Small bits of corrosion may hit the line if not perfectly centered (a fish running off to the side on a hot strike) and wear down mono quickly. tom

I do the same thing in the winter months.

One thing I have been doing lately is using the spray on quik detailer wax on the rod parts and reel. It seems to get into all the nooks and crannies very well.
