I'm surprised so many people use the Stellas, Accurates, Van Staal's, etc. I am sure they are probably all fantastic... but I could never imagine paying so much for a spinning reel, even if I was completely flooded with cash. I guess I just don't know what I am missing. When I think spinning reel I think < $100.

For personal and charter use I have always used the Daiwa BG series. Reliable reels, very functional, last a long time, easy to get parts. Recently I have purchased a few Okuma Salina series reels, which have more bearings and a dual disk drag system... I really like them so far. Very smooth drag, can generate a ton of drag pressure, lightweight, great for fishing braid. I have used those Penn slammers before, they are nice too.

Here's another thing, I'm lefthanded so my personal reel is set but you don't know what your charter customers are going to be. Which is the easiest to change over right to left in short order without parts everywhere?Penn SS series seem to be the easiest.

The best value spinners i have ever owned it has to be the Spheros
just bought a pile of quantam Cabos for a customer for sail doggin and liked the feel they have , I have tried the accurate spinners and they are smooth as silk , Daiwa seem to have a good reputation among fishermen

Thanks!
Although I also use some other Shimano: Stradic, baitcaster and have an Okuma which works great with braid. I've used the Penn Slammer and it was pretty nice too. Probably can't go wrong with any big name but you will find you might like some better based on feel. To me, a VanStaal feels 'rough' compared to a shimano though they are built like a tank and would probably last forever. The only shimano I've had quite was 24 years old. All things aside, quality of drag is likely the only factor that will HELP you catch more fish.

Have used Penn Slammers 450 and 750 for the last 5 seasons NO ISSUES at all. Great quality for the $

Inshore it's all Penn SS, I think I have about a dozen in different sizes. For Sails and pitch bait rigs we use the Shimano Baitrunners - for the price they are a great reel.
