Longbeach 60 Problems
So i took it all apart and ordered new parts. Here is where I'm stuck.
1.I ordered the 98-60AT Stainless Gear Sleeve. When I put in on and pushed the little pin in, I can still pull it off of the bridge?? Is this supposed to happen? 2. See the pics below. When I put on the new dog, it is different from the old one. I'm not sure where the dog spring goes on either of them. There is a "post" molded into the right side plate. I think this must be a very old Longbeach 60??? This post gets in the way of the dog moving up and down. 3. Do HT-100 Drag washers get grease? What order do they go in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remember that little sliver like piece from the other thread.... that's the old dog spring. They must have changed the design since the schematics show the new part where the spring would be a coil spring and slip over that point on the backside of the dog.
I'm no expert, but I would suppose that you have three choices, one is to seek out and find the old style dog and spring as I know they still exist and have seen them myself in a dusty drawer in an old reel repair shop, just never knowing what they were. second you could use the old side plate and just mill out that knob but I'm no expert so I can't say that it'd work correctly with the new spring. Third would be to get a new side plate as all of the other parts should swap smoothly over including your new dog. You could also use the old parts, maybe reverse the direction of the spring but it wouldn't be my first choice.

hoo, boy!!!!!!!!! are you absolutely sure you have a penn long beach 60??? first, take a look at the bridge post. chances are that your's busted off at the top. now there's nothing to hold the pin. if this is the case, you need a new bridge. this is a lousy photo, but you can barely see the groove cut in the top of the bridge post that i'm talking about. ![]() second, the dog spring that you need is not the coiled spring type that you have, it's the flat type seen in the penn 114h. here's is a penn 111 side plate and it takes a coiled dog spring. ![]() here's a 4/0 penn senator 113h taking the same coiled dog spring. http://www.yourfishpictures.com/data...m/100_0707.JPG here is a 6/0 penn 114h taking a flat dog spring. this is what you have. and this is what your dog spring should look like. make sure you grease the drag washers. this should get you through. http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...t=penn+rebuild

I did some research from Penn. It is an OLD 60 Longbeach. They changed sideplates at somepoint which allowed the change to the new type of dog and dog spring. Mine does take the 114 type spring. If i bought a replacement RH side plate, it would allow the new dogspring setup. My sideplates are a brownish color? Not the black like the new stuff. Also, My bridge post did NOT break. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I can still pull the stainless sleeve off with the pin in. It may be an original bridge post, which is different like the dog and spring???? Who knows. Probably won't fish it much as it is old and sure looks good on a mantle in the living room. $20 spent, but I'll save it for a different rebuild I guess. Thanks for all your help.

check the number stamped on your bridge plate. the newer ones should say "3-66". i actually have an old one and can mail it to you if you wish. i can also check for an old 60 right side plate later this afternoon. just send a pm with your address. alan

Check to see if you have any stainless 60 sleeves to fit over the old bridge post and then check to see if it fits on the new bridge post. Just want to see if there are any differences.

i've got a bunch of stainless steel gear sleeves. i'm the supplier for pennparts.com. i'm thinking you have an old bridge base. it's just that i've never seen this issue before. i'll send out a new one to you, well, used actually, but it will work. i just need to know if the bridge that you have is stamped "3-66" or "3-60". thanks! alan
