Everol reels....YES or NO ??

I got a chance at obtaining 3 everol reels, 1 2-speed 6/0 (narrow) 1 12/20 (special) and 1 single speed 4/0 (wp series) before droppin $1000+ could anyone give me some input/advice on these reels?? I own penn,avet and accurate reels and like them all, just NEVER even laid eyes on a everol.

Are they "as good" or are they just another brand with a high price-tag??? and how's there service reputation??

ANY input is greatly appreciated!!

I field tested one a few years ago....A 12/0 , was like a winch...Wrote an article about them. They are Italian .. never needed parts yet. Ive caught Marlin ,Bft. wahoos ... sharks and about everything else Still going strong has to be at least ten years old and the drag settings are right still!

i had the 6/12 when they first came out..they are built like a tank. keep your eye out for the 12/20 2spd..

The everols where used before just about any other reel in Cairns for giant blacks and were a great reel. I believe they have just started to come back on the scene as a competetive reel. Would use the Tiagras as you cant beat them for price and durability.

Everol's Tough reels & that is for sure! Use to fish with Frank Mundus back in the day & he used nothin but the Everol reels. I dont recall any problems at all with them! I have friends down in Fla fishin 20 plus yr old everols still to this day

Everol reels were originally produced with one fish in mind and that was the GBFT.My only concern would be parts availability and some one who knew how to service the reel correctly when needed ! Thats the only thing that has held me up from going back to them! Good luck to ya! I hope you enjoy them !!!!!!

I have 2 - 12/20's.....and just got a 6/12,which is a very small reel,for jigging....it will get about 25lbs drag at strike....they are very well built,and durable.
I use them for jigging/chunking.....great reels.

Jeff, you're right about Frank Mundus. The world record Mako shark, 50 lb line class was with Frank Mundus and an Everol 4/0 on the Cricket back in the late 1970s.

Knockdown, yes-- there are many old Everols still cranking in fish. Old or not, they just don't die. Parts availability is really not a problem at all. In fact, parts for all the reels, ancient or not, are still available via the factory. Small bits like screws are generic; just go to the hardware store. Or, as Fishskipper noted, you might not need them anyway.

Service is really not too difficult. Most folks with a bit of mechanical savvy can figure it out. The reels were built to last, and designed to be maintained anywhere in the world. Sort of the Land Rover of reels.

Marty, yes-- Everol was huge in Cairns, as well as Hawaii, Nova Scotia, the Atlantic seaboard and anywhere else big fish were to be found.

The thing is you see, that Everol is not making a comeback. They've always been there. Everol is one of the first and longest-lived big game reels ever.

Over the decades, reels and reel companies have come and gone, some in a blaze of glory, some easily forgotten. Some still stand in a blinding light of new products and glorious full-page advertising campaigns. Something that Everol quite honestly does not give a shit about.... because they've always been there. People just haven't seen them while blinded.

Really, Everol is unchanged. The reels are essentially the same, the factory is the same, and in fact the same guys still work there, making the same number of reels they always did. A few more, actually.

There is some news though. Everol USA is currently establishing a new import, sales and distribution network, beginning in the Southeast USA as we speak, and expanding Northward from there. The new headquarters are based in Mobile, Alabama under the leadership of Mr Keith Wichmann. A new website and dealer network is currently underway.

There are some new products in the pipeline as well, primarily in the smaller sizes. We will see what happens.

Manny's Mate, good luck with your reels. I think they'll grow on ya.
