i second capt daley, there is enough lead by the wheel aligment machine to supply you with sinkers for years, stop by a dealership or a tire store, they may give it to you to get it out of there.

Fintan, do not buy lead! There is plenty of places willing to give it away. My friends and I just melted down a few hundred pounds of it. We made all our 8,10,12,and 16 ounce sinkers for the monster shark tournament. The way we rig them they break away from the main line and are never seen again upon the strike. We used roofing flashing and old bricks of lead we had laying around. Like others said do it in a very well ventilated area. The affects may not hit you till later. Do not touch the leads untill your sure they have cooled down. I have the burn marks to prove it. Try finding it for free before you consider buying it because then your probobly better off buying the pre made sinkers.

do not buy lead

used tire stores are a good place to get lead. dive shops are a good place to get it too with the dive belts made of lead. go to the phone co. all the old phone wire use to be rapped in lead sleves. they will give as much as you want. take a trip to the dump you never know what you will find walking around. all the old flashing from roofs are lead. old window shashes had led in them, about 2 lbs of it each side.

Find a gun club or a junk yard, also some gas stations collect them from old tire balance weights, that is usually the cheapest ways to get it. Buying on ebay or other sites is typically expensive, as mentioned above, the shipping kills you.

I get mine from a local scrap yard...

Lead Pipe, Lead Shower Pans, etc...

I found that wheel weights are not 100% lead and don't pour as well.
