AVET 80W

Interestingly I saw this reel listed in the new Melton catalogue, but don't see it on Avet's web site or any of the other main Avet dealers sites. Anyone know if this reel is out yet and if so what the specs are on it.

Much appreciated

Why would avet need to have an 80 class series with the T rex that can plow out 100# of drag on a small unit. I would much rather have the smaller gear with braid spooled. At 100# of drag unless you are strapped to the boat you are goin over. Even a 130 at full strike you are looking at less pressure than the 50 class reels. I think that we are going to see a huge transition in the reel market from the large reels to smaller more manageble gear with higher torque ratios. I see the rod builders are already adapting to the new market. It is awesome

Wonder who fished 100lbs of drag. Do the Giant Bluefin guys ever fish that much drag?

I fished with the avets a good bit over the past 2 years and they are workhorses. very strong and very light.

wished more people would chime in on this thread.

Couple of things at play here. First I was interested in finding out if anyone knows when this reel is going to hit the market. Melton Tackle has told me in the next 4 weeks.

Next it isn't a fair comparision to the 50w. Different applications entirely. I have a full collection of TRX's and they are indeed everything Avet claims they are. But if you are going to run planner's for instance you are going to want the 80w, not because of drag, but because it both holds more line (braid in this case) and retrieves a great deal more line per crank. If it was all about small reels Avet already makes a 30trx that has more drag then every other brand's 80's. Simply different reels for different applications.

If anyone hears anything from Avet about the release date, please post.

I wonder if most people realize that.

Well said Kodi.

I don't have any first hand info for ya, but from what I have heard is that they were origionally due out in March or something like that, a couple of west coast guys were upset about the delay and I think that Melton's thought it would be ready and just risked putting it in the catalogue?? Obviously they can answer that. I do believe that Avet is not going to put it out until they are sure it is right.

Sorry I don't have anything better for ya

FOR THE RECORD:

we put the 80W in the catalog because avet assured us it would be ready in time to be sold with that issue. due to unforseen problems they were not, and are not ready for sale yet.
I was at the Avet Factory recently and spent a great deal of time with Harry getting a better understanding of the entire build process as well as what the hold up is on the 80. Its real, it exists, ive seen one, held it in my hands, played with it, pushed all the buttons etc. It looks like a great piece of equipment. According to Harry as of last friday, the reels are ready, they are just waiting for the boxes to be made so they can be shipped. i would say a few more weeks tops barring any unforseen circumstances.

Mr Daniels; Do you know if Avet is going to make these available as left-hand models or is it gonna be like the "hoo's" (no lefties available yet)??
