Typical AVET
I bought 4 exw 50 single speeds from a company called Dockside Bait in Mass. I was taking my new boat to Hatteras with my Dad and wanted something alittle bigger than the 30's I had been borrowing. When they got here I opened the single speed box to find "two speed" reels. Upon closer examination the reel said two speed all over it. What it was however was a two speed shell with the low gear taken out and the shift button replace with some washers and a hardward store nut. I called AVET and they told me they don't make enough of those reels to actually do a good job, I mean to actually produce a reel that says single speed. My trip was in 7 days. I had no choice but to spool up and go. Dockside Bait told me they would take care of it and we would just convert up to two speeds. Well no one from Dockside bait will get back in touch with me, AVET says it is not their problem and that they are very busy and I've got 1900.00 worth of patched together reels that I paid good money for less than 6 months ago, plus the clickers suck on the exw50's! Shimano has NEVER not exceeded my expectations for customer service....Avet is not even nice to people. AVET late with something....might be lucky to see anything at all. 100lb's of drag will never keep my mouth shut for telling how AVET and Dockside Bait in Mass. did.

Lefty HOO-X should be available 11/1 as for the 80, i dont know as of yet, but i would imagine it should be about a year after the righty is released.

so im confused. what seems to be your issue with AVET? aside from your reels saying "two speed" on the side.

Sorry to hear about your issues with Avet. Personally, I've got 8 50w T-RX's, 2 MX's, and 2 SX's and probably picking up a couple or HooX's this offseason. I can't completely disagree with the clicker comment. No one likes them including me. After a day or night of fishing with raw fingers they can be difficult to engage, but in my opinion they more then make up for that small shortfall when a fish hits. I have penn's, shimano's and like both brands as well, but if a big fish hits I'd take the avet over any other brand.

i agree i have 2 lx's and getting 2 sx's this week
i love these reels i have never seen a reel produce like this before on big fish. i have had numerous charters out and used the lx's and were able to get 100tlb tuna boatside in under 10 minutes its absolutely unreel what these small light weight reels can do.
I am sorry to hear that the one guy had a problem with his 50's i know alot of people that are converting from their penns and shimanos to these light weight avet reels. That was honestly the first complaint i have heard from the avet company.

Rumor has it that the 80s will begin to ship this week - Don't hold your breath though.
I like the AVETs and have a number of MXs that I use for light tackle - Kings, Spanish and I like them. I'd still give them a little while to work out the kinks of a 1st gen product... |

Love the avets. I have a couple of SX's and an LX and love em. I haven't fished any other offshore models but can only imagine their capabilities.
