Anyone heard of the Lure Leader Planer boards?
I have been looking into buying one of these but have never heard of it. does anyone know if they work well as a downrigger? I need something that I can troll 10 knots up to 150ft deep and my pockets are shallow. The navy doesn't pay well, lol

never heard of the product ?
u can use a planer from old salty u can use a z-wing u can use a large lead weight all the above work with heavy mono and release clip (snap swivel/rubberband) simple set up so you do not bring the planer up every time. Above the planer, z wing, lead weight add a stopper. 14" up. U can use a in line snap swivel(snaps on both ends) with a egg sinker before it(egg sinker is a cushion for the crimped connection). Crimp it in place. That is the stopper. Next the release. Use a small snap swivel with a rubber band attached to the swivel end. connect your main line from rod to the rubberband. clip the snap to the line going to the planer, weight, z wing. lock the snap and send it down. Some add a small weight to the snap to help it get down faster. adjust the rubber band size in relation to the size and weight of the lure you are dragging. example: small drone spoons...small thin rubberbands. or. large lead head wahoo lures....double the thin or use a heavier single rubberband. That is the cheapest way. there are other ways to rig the release. I have seen 7 different ways that all work well. Other members have come up with great ways to improve the release based on the fish type/lure type. good luck. where gloves...slow the boat to retrieve the planer, weight, z wing at the end of fishing |
