    ROLEX WATCH?

I am in the market for a high quality used Rolex and I have no idea where to start looking. Any suggestions? I am located in Maryland, near DC. So far, I like the Submariner, Daytona and Yachtmaster. I have only researched them online.

Make offers on ebay just make sure it is a reliable seller.
or http://www.nationalwatch.com/ is reputable. Remember don't pay what they are asking try to beat them down.

With the price of gold so high, the gold watches are pretty pricey. Stainless obviously not affected.

You can get a s/s Sub or GMT easily, but the stainless steel Daytona is the most sought-after model. You can't just walk into a Rolex dealer and buy a new one - even in this economy - you have to be "on the waiting list" and better yet a preferred customer who has spent a buttload of cash on other Rolexes.

The Daytonas are not discounted, unlike the Subs and other Rolex models, so expect to pay a premium. $10k at a minimum for a pre-owned Daytona, versus about $4500 for a pre-owned stainless Sub.

If you do buy a Rolex online be careful. I was at the jewelry store about a month ago and they said a guy came in and had a lady's presidential that he bought online. Apparently they sent it to their master watch technician and he said the outside was official rolex, but the mechanism inside was a chinese knockoff mechanism. This was, according to the jeweler, a very common sight. Just make sure to have any watch checked out by a rolex dealer to ensure authenticity.

what he said but only for the white face Daytona. In addition to the used watch selection at the authorized dealers you could also visit the so called grey dealers. Allan Furman in Rockville is one of them. Google for their website.
One piece of advise: used Rolex prices are so diverse that you better do your homework before you buy.

Thanks for the info, I think I will steer away from purchasing online. I'm afraid of getting taken with a knock-off. I believe the Yachtmaster and Daytona's are out of my price range. I'm looking to spend between 3 - 5k for something used. I'm not worried about a few marks b/c I will be wearing the watch everyday and I'm pretty rough on them.

Does anyone know if there is a Submariner that is stainless with yellow gold in the band as well?

Scott, I will send you a PM for the dealer's contact info. Thanks.

I guess Admin's banner ads are working!!

fish4fun - give the guys at Alan Furman in Rockville a call (800) 654-7184. They are reputable and often have used pieces available. I have purchased a couple of watches from them and have repair work done there as well. www.alanfurman.com

If you are into the pawn shop thing I also know of a shop in Rockville that gets very nice stuff. The owner is a childhood friend of a co-worker and seems very knowledgable. PM me if interested.
