Rod storage
Anyone have a suggestion for a clean, relatively inexpensive, rod storage system for home? Something that will hold something in the range of 10 offshore and 10 inshore rods? Ideally wall mounted but any suggestions are appreciated.
Sterling, i hang mine from the ceiling of my garage. i took 2" pvc and cut it into ~6" lengths. drilled holes through the middle of it and mounted it to a board at the spacing i needed to keep the reel from touching. this is the end the butt goes into. for further up the pole i took the same 2" piece and cut a slot into it that allows the rod to slip in from the side and then rest on the pipe. i mounted these to another board and mounted it to the ceiling also. make sure you chamfer all edges to keep from digging into the rod or line and if you wanted you could even glue some felt or something to the area where the rod lays.
on another note i took a bunch of 2" pvc tee's and elbows and short sections of the pipe and put together a rectangular shaped unit with the single leg of the tee's pointing upward and a short piece of pipe in the end and when i return to the dock/home i just put the poles into these and they are all standing upright to be washed down. just drill some holes into the pipe so it won't hold water when washing them. hope this helps.

4" Sections of 2" PVC Pipe Mounted in my garage ceiling w/ a hook at the tip end does wonders for me. You need to pre drill the PVC about 3/8" hole through bottom side so you can pre dill opposite side with 1/8" bit and insert screw. Then use an extra long phillips bit w/ #8 or #10 wood screw (about 2", depending if you have sheet rock) and tap into beam or mounting scrap wood.
Slide the butt end of pole into PVC and rod tip on to hook - done
a 2' section of PVC and few hooks are a lot cheaper than custom rod holders for a ceiling type mount
