    Question on shipping rods...

Does anyone have any advice on shipping rods inexpensively. Was quoted a number of $154 (UPS store - postage & packaging) from Florida to Colorado...

Yep, you're paying a fortune to somebody for putting them in a box. Also, UPS is the crookedest ship in the shipping business. They're shafting you as an individual shipper. See if you know somebody who has an account (not an online account, a real business account) that will process the shipment for you. My experience is about a 30% savings vs. logging on yourself..... and don't get me started on their insurance.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

Ship the rods in schedule 40 pvc pipe, and two caps. Cheap, and very durable. Then like the others said take it over to ups or fedex.

Try to keep the tube under 6ft, that's when it becomes expensive.

The UPS Store will only ship UPS. If you have a Pack and Ship Store that uses all of the major carriers, you will often get a much better shipping price.

You are much better off packing it yourself though.

I've shipped 6 1/2' rods for 12-15 bucks from the post office. Just pack them yourself and its pretty inexpensive. They have length limits you can check out online. If you go over something like 108" total (length+width+height) then there is an extra charge. I don't know the exact numbers though.

I use 4" "root proof tubing", available at home depot. Cheaper and much lighter than schedule 40 PVC
