I was at sunset marina(great marina but $$$, i found a slip at the pines point marina that is at the base of rt90 bridge. For what i saved it will pay for my fuel for the summer. I don't have a tower on my boat so i don't have to wait on the drawbridge. There are a couple of bigger boats in there +38'. this will be my first season in there but looks good and secure

Pines Point is a very nice facility. My recommendation (coming from someone who was at bahia for 17 years) LEARN THAT BACK CHANNEL WELL. GO IN DAYLIGHT AND PLOT IT WITH LOTS OF WAYPOINTS. If your boat does not have a radar you might want to consider one. The channel from 28th street to harbor island is very unforgiving and some of the markers will betray you if you get too close to them (especially the red side)
running in the dark or in the fog is not real fun. Your first few trips should definitely be in daylight and good visibility, or the money you saved for fuel will be spent on props.

I understand the slips at White Marlin Marina are affordable as well.

thanks franky for that tip. as soon as i get the bottom painted and in the water i will do that. I did have to navigate that at night once and the bouys that are n/w of the thoughfare are way off on my gps. the grady lost a engine at the beginning of the rock fish bite, wish i had you survey it before i bought it, but still got a good deal on the boat.

the problem here is there is no free parking at the marina . the parking meters only allow you to pay for 12 hrs of parking max . if you park at 4:30 am your meter payment will run out at 4:30 pm and if returning later you will find a nice yellow supprise on your window . slips are nice , marina staff was great , the parking is one heck of a PIA .

Franky is right about the channel. I pulled a charter from Bahia off the bar there a few years ago who ran aground in pea soup fog. They ended up back on the bar and I almost did as well (I have no business pulling a 5o footer anywhere, much less in the fog!). I got out that day and one more charter ended up agroung shortly later (I was just dumb and lucky). They Army Corp actually addded a lighted red marker this year mid-channel which really helped (since the fixed channel marker is located in 3 inches of water and 50 feet from the actual channel). As luck would have it though, after a few weeks, the light stopped working! Back to the radar... Maybe it will be fixed this summer!
