Most Innovative Hook's
So listen, we got in these new hooks, and we want to see what members of this board have to say. From our own research with the manufacturers these hooks are stronger then anything else on the market.
They are 20% lighter then traditional steel but twice as strong as titanium and steel, plus they are 100% non-corrosive. The hooks retail for about $12 but I will gave them away for free. HOWEVER there are some stipulations. I want feedback, these will only be given away to people that have a high number of posts and will use them quickly and provide back your comments. I want maasive fish pulling on these to see actual results. PM me if you are interested and only serious requests will be honored. Here are some pictures from a test Capt Bart Miller performed and posted his results on another site. Its public information so go and see for yourself. The second pic is a test between these hooks and the Mustad stainless and the newer extra strong Mustad. The third is a test with the 4 X Strong Nobu 10/0 Carbon Steel We will be posting our own results and pics here shortly. The manufacturer is Anderson Hooks www.andersonhooks.com |

I have received some PM's on the hook design, the eye being turned makes it easier when tandem rigging.
I am also looking for some guys to rig these for giant bluefin the winter down in North Carolina - we havent found a fish yet to straighten these out. |

Murph,
Im no expert but the only thing I would say about the hook is the size of the shank seems thick. Good for tuna fishing but harder to penetrate a marlins bill. This is only my opnion. I have a question for you. What is the advantage to the black chrome or that black finish thats on all the new hooks? I would be willing to try some of your hooks. I will be in the Carolinas giant blue finning again this year commercial and recreational. |

Good question pitch.
From what we have seen there has been no issues with penetration, it looks deceiving but the ultra sharp needlepoint assists nicely. Many of the finishes are for anti-corrosion etc. I will be happy to send the sample your way - send me your address etc in a PM. I will be very interested in knowing how they do on the Bluefin. I will be down in Morehead City fishing for them as well and will mostly be fishing these hooks. When you see the hook in person you will see its proportions as compared to other hooks. Like I said anyone seriously fishing for large shark, tuna and marlin let me know and I will send you a sample - provide feedback on how you think it works. |

No expert either, but the black chrome finish on Owner and Gamakatsu hooks is there to protect the hook itself which is high carbon steel and will corrode relatively easily. That's why you should avoid resharpening these hooks because once you take off the black chrome finish from the tip, the bare steel acts like a sacrificial anode and deteriorates even more rapidly.
I have, or rather had trouble believing any hook could keep its point after hard impact with the hardwood like mouth of a blue marlin but I've seen fairly heavily used Owner Jobus still pretty sharp so maybe they have licked that problem, high carbon steel is harder than stainless so maybe that's it. I too agree with pitchbait - the heavier the shank of a hook the harder it's going to be to stick, especially in smaller finicky fish like WM. I've missed enough WM bites on the xx heavy korean hooks to be a little frustrated with their failure to pin the little devils. However, of course that kind of hook is also intended to catch far bigger/stronger fish than WM. I think they really shine when rigged in smaller lures that could be eaten by a big fish. I think Bart mentioned something in the other thread about custom designing being possible, if that's the case, with that material being very strong, shank thickness could be reduced for easier penetration without sacrificing too much in the way of strength. Interesting to observe developments in this field. |

Owner came out with a light guage j hook that I bought a pack of. Sharp as the bejeeziz and one like mentioned above that you wouldnt want to put a hone stone to. I wish I hadn't been such a nitwit as to throw the package out so I could get the number but they were hell on whites during our practice. My problem was that I ran out come game time and nobody in OC had them. It was thin wire/ J style/ Longer shank than say a 3407... Expensive (like $15 for 10) but could be a player as my white hook in the tourneys...

Patudo, I think you hit on it. These hooks while are in a 10/0 they are really a big hook for WM etc. The manufacturer will be coming out with other sizes and styles but only in 8/0 through 12/0. The manufacturing process is very expensive so I would expect to see but so many sizes and styles in the near future. We are close with the manufacturer/distributor we should have some conclusive evidence on the durability of the hook point etc.
Pitch Bait from here will have some at the MA 500 and several other guys here on the board will be trying them out from bluefin to marlin to shark. |

I forgot to mention there is no coating on the hooks, they are 100% non-corrosive. They are not heat tempered or heat treated either.

As you know I fish a lot. If you want to part with one that I can run I guess with my plastic, I'd be happy to give you some solid feedback. I have a range of lures that take from 8/0-13/0 in 7731 so if you have something in that range I could let you know how it fares...
