    looking for a cheap .308

Gents I am looking for a good, but maybe slightly used and abused bolt action .308 win. Preferably an older Rem 700 or 722 but it really doesnt matter maybe a converted mauser. I am looking for a project so if the stock is broken in a half I dont care. All I need is a good action and a good barrel (heavy if possible). Cheap is also a key factor here. Hit me up and let me know. Thanks guys. Oh yeah a little surface corrosion doesnt bother me as long as the innards are clean.

Savage makes a great gun too man and it's cheap. Some people have good and bad things to say about them but we've only had good experience.

Keep an eye out for them as well.

Jay if I can find a savage 10 or 110 I'd be delighted. I thought about a new one but Im trying to keep the cost way down. I am a big fan of Savage I have a couple of 99e leverguns laying around. Rems may just be easier to find since theyve been around awhile. My deer rifle is a trade off, .300 savage in a Remington 722. I want to build another shooter. I started on last year using a 98 mauser but a friend just had to have it, so I sold it. Now I need another.

Yeah rems are all over. I'll keep my eyes open. My brother bought his Savage in lieu of a Remington $700. I think he paid like $400 OTD (before all this hoopla with our new Pres). Pulled the stock and dropped a super varminter stock on there. Harris bi-pod. I forgot what scope but its punching nice tight groups in the paper at 500 yd.

Snake Eyes I havent checked them yet, I did look at gunbroker.com but Im looking for something a little less pretty. Most of what they have is nicer than what I want. Thanks though I will check gunsamerica out, I forgot all about them. Theres a gun show in Charlotte in 2 weeks I may find something there.

i know, it's tough to find what you want sometimes. there's so much involved with guns, as far as stocks go , grade ,ect. i shot one of those expensive kreigophs [spell] for years and sold it for a $500 gun that litterally smashes clays.

What kind of price range you talking? I can always find .308's around this town.

John it depends on what it is, but Im looking to spend less than $200. This is going to be a real project all Im looking for really is a decent action and barrel. If you come across something cheap let me know. Im hoping to come across some old hunting rifle with a scope that I can pick up cheap see how it shoots and then turn it into a tack driver. My grand father is a retired tool and die maker turned gunsmith (well hes been a hobby gunsmith and collector since the late 40s) and he has been teaching me for years. So I want to see if I can make a silk purse out of pigs ear. Or at least a synthetic silk purse. Im going to carve a custom stock, do the bedding, trigger work, crown or recrown the barrel(may replace), and some other odds and ends depending on what I find. I had one I started but like I said a friend made me an offer I couldnt refuse, so I didnt.

Ok....what if I can find you a .308 action? There's lots of marines here that bought Remington 700's for the actions and got in over their heads. I might be able to find a few. I'll let you know what I find.
