    Kingfish Reels

We are looking at upgrading our TLD 15's to something with a higher retrieve ratio. I really want lever drags. What reels would you guys recommend us looking at?

    Thanks

If I was getting back into live baiting I would try the TN-12's

Now they are some impressive reels. Those so far are on top of my list of things to get.

    Thank you for the link.

I have heard good things about the avents too. The TLD is a great reel, but since we are thinking of upgrading we want to make sure we get something that is going to blow us away. Also a reel with a little more retrieve is going to be wonderful.

My fishing partner upgraded from the TLD 15's to the Avet's last year and MAN, what a difference. I keep thinking I want to use them drum fishing because they cast so well and are soooooo smooth.

Fishing with the Shimano Tyrnos offshore as well and they are incredible reels and smooth as butter, even on the bigger ones. I imagine that the live bait Tyrnos are very impressive but the Avet will be hard to beat.

As far as rods the tip action on the Shimano Tallus Kingfish rod is so limber that I'm not sure if Heidi Klum could stiffen it up.

It is hard to find that 6:2 ration with lever drag. That seems to be the magic number that most KMT fishermen want. I use my TLD15s for fun fishing because they are so easy for other people to use. I purchased TLD 25s, Tyrnos and Tiagras for offshore but finally came to the conclusion that if you want the 6:2 and stay with the Shimano you had to go with the Toriums so I bought 8 Torium 20s and LOVE THEM. They are for tournament use only. Now they are not as simple as the lever drag because they are star but they are smooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth like budder.
I only use the Shimano Kingfish Series Tallus Rods for fun and Tournaments, I believe I have atleast a dozen of the Kingfish series rods and LOVE them too. This is just my opinion but I was of the EXACT same opinion as you are that I wanted to stay with lever drag. The Toriums are AWESOME! So are the Tyrnos and Tiagras matter of fact every rod and reel in my tackle room is Shimano, Hey where is my sponsor deal for this ad LOL just kidding just a person who believes in a great product.
The TLD is hard to beat when fun fishing and just for the record I was fun fishing at the Jungle 3 weeks ago with a friend and his 10 yr old daughter neither had ever caught a king before and had 4 bites all day 2 fish 34 and 36 lost one on a double header and broke the biggest one off at the boat well over 40. Yep both of them had a fish over 30 first time, I explained to them not to get use to it LOL.
But I only had 4 bites all day and this happened in less than 30 minute time frame in one spot. All on TLD 15s. So believe me the TLD 15 is AWESOME and you can catch a 40 on them despite what all us KMT fishermen believe. Just like everytime we must USE POGIES MUST USE POGIES, I do it too during tournament but fun fishing I try different stuff and sure enough I catch bigger fish, just like sheep being led to a slaughter one day I will wake up but for now I must have 6:2 and POGIES LOL LOL Just my input let us know what you decide and how you like your decision I know I tussled with mine for a while

Well at least you guys have pretty much talked me into 1 of 2 reels. The Tyoriums or the Avents. I am going to talk with the sponsor first to see if they can put up some cash, if not we might be going with the most reasonable priced reel.

Hey Dolphin, if I had connections, I would offer you a sponsor deal for you talking so positive about Shimano Reels.

I will post what we decide to buy.

Thanks to all who helped with the input! You rock.
