why are you using a hollow core line?

Why not just go with a braid like like Power Pro 150 lb test for a mainline?

After looping the spectra do you tie a bimini in the mono top shot for its loop?

why are you using a hollow core line?

The ability to splice all connections and avoid knots are two primary considerations. If you ever do lose any hollow core line, you can splice on additional line without resorting to a knot. Also, hollow braided lines are smoother and less abrasive than solid spectra lines.

After looping the spectra do you tie a bimini in the mono top shot for its loop?

No, on the end of the mono topshot you serve a short spectra piece with a spliced loop. The L-2-L spectra connection is extremely small and will go through any guide or release clip.

Basil, sorry for the late question, but just read this.

On the piece of hollow core that you attach to your 'leader', do you attach that with the Chinese finger, just as you would attach your hollow core mainline to your topshot? Same method? Also, what color hollow core do you recc for the connection to the leader? Seems the white would stand out like a sore thumb if you're tuna fishing. And that's down there fairly close to your bait.

I've been using either straight mono or PowerPro attached to topshot via Spro wind-ons. Been using the Spro wind-ons for my connections for awhile now. But I'm considering switching, mainly because of the concern of the Spros going through the guides under pressure. I use 25-30' leaders, which means the fish will be near the boat when that Spro is in the guides. Don't like the idea of the fish moving away quickly with the Spro in the guides, even with the drag backed off. Still debating though, as I'm used to the Spros and have confidence in them and my crimps (now!). And not sure which one would look smaller in the water and create less bubble trail... the Spro or a loop to loop connection.

I use white spectra and make a double finger trap with a loop on one end. If you come to a Canyon Runner seminar I'll demonstrate the process.
