    Chum churn style chummer

Homemade chum churn style chummer for sale. Me and BTH 284 made this several years ago when we thougth we wanted to try chumming for the old drum and tarpon. It was only used for about a day, was cleaned up and stored in my garage ever since. It works great, but just did not suit our style of fishing. This sale is in direct response from my wife to clean out the garage...right on time for mother's day! $25

Does it work as good as the original? I really like the chum churn. If it works good, I'd be interested.

    Not sure about the original....

I have never used an actual Chum Churn. I saw a real Chum Churn at a local tackle shop years ago, but was unwilling to spend that kind of money (I think it was more than $100) and I just like to make stuff. I looked at it REAL carefully at the shop and also looked at the diagrams on the Chum Churn website and simply did my best to build my own. Basically, the metal tubing acts as an axle. There is a set of blades fixed on the axle inside of the pvc housing. You fill the pvc tube with the fish of your choice by loading it through the port at the top of the wye. You then pump the whole assembly up and down in the water, the white pvc housing rides up and down the axle, rebounding at each end of the axle off of the springs. The blades that are fixed on the axle are cutting the fish up inside the tube with each stroke. The Chum Churn info I read said that the noise associated with doing this also would attract targeted fish. You then leave the whole deal hanging over the side of the boat go to catching. I made this as close to the Chum Churn as I could. The whole assembly comes apart for easy cleaning once you are done. Again, I have never used an actual Chum Churn so I don't know exactly how it performs. I do know that the one I made works great! I was using it for old drum and tarpon fishing. We loaded it up with shad, bluefish, spots, pinfish, and crabs. We would just pump it a few times until the slick started. We would then just pump it occasionally to freshen up the slick.

    Topsail this weekend

    Capt John,

I live in Zebulon (near Raleigh), but go to Topsail fairly regularly as my wife's grandmother has a place there. I am actually going to be at Topsail all weekend (leaving this evening and coming home Sunday night). If you want to try and hook up, just let me know. I am leaving work early this afternoon to head out. I will pm you my phone number so you can call me.
