Dunno. I won't be at the yard again until Saturday. I'll give you a status report then.

If you're seriously interested don't wait, PM me for the contact info and give the owner a call.

Unhappy

BUMP for a heck of a deal !!!!!

It turns out that the expense and logistics of relocating this boat to the Carolinas pretty much precludes this project for me. Heck, the fees, permits and tolls to get it out of NY are more than he's asking for the boat.

BUT, as Ace noted early on, the tower is worth more than the asking price. The enclosure is also. As Clt Capt noted these hulls were tanks. The pockets make for better angles and economy for the inboards. This express is a very rare bird as only a few were built.

This is a very do-able project for someone to create a good offshore platform ---- just that they need to be located closer or have the means and time to go get her themselves. I hope the owner finds someone local to save this deal and keep her out of the grinder.

If I am not mistaken that boat is a 27....a friend of mine bought one new in the early 80's and had the first Gil brackets installed also had a tower(the first one Phoenix made with bracket)....One hell of a boat. Like Capt said real heavy duty. It s a shame if someone does not re do it.

Update

I spoke with the owner today. He's had several calls and visitors, but no deals have closed yet. The outriggers are gone, but the bow pulpit (rail) is still readily fixable.*

He advised me that the starboard engine is the one that failed. It ate a valve and seized. The good news is that this is the standard-rotation engine so a visit to the junkyard for a 350 Chevy small block from a pickup truck or similar yields the basis for getting her running. Swap the marine parts onto it and drop it in. (Boy that sure makes it sound easy, doesn't it ) I also understand that the manifolds and risers were recently replaced.

As I stated before, I'm posting this to help a friend and save a nice boat. I get nothing from this except the satisfaction of knowing it will end up in the water instead of a dumpster.

*I misunderstood another member's message to me. Apparently there was an anchor pulpit which was gone before I took the photos. Not seeing a pulpit I thought he meant the bow rail was gone. Sorry for any confusion.
