2 styles of wind-on planner bridles for sale

Well, bluefin season is over so I have had plenty of time to tinker around while the wind and rain keep me indoors. With that time I have starting building some planner bridles to get ready for the coming season. I now have two styles of bridle, they are both nearly indistructible and served myself and many others very well last year. They are for use with planer rod set ups using #8-#32 planers that are attached with clips. The bridle is attached using a loop to loop conection to the braid on your reel.

One type has no swivels or crimps involved to fail or hang up in the guides. The wind-on system has 130 feet of 130lb mono spliced into it. It is designed and works great for rods with average to small guides.

The second style is built using the same loop to loop wind-on system but instead of having the full mono leader attached I have spliced in a 150lbs swivel. By splicing in the swivel you can crimp on any size and length leader you would like. Another benifit of the swivel is if you chaff or get the leader knotted you can cut it off and attach another leader to the existing bridle.

While I can not garuntee it will never fail, I have used one all year charter fishing pulling a #24 planer and it is still good as new.

I am selling each style for 30 dollars.

What do you need for a reel to pull a #24 planer?

Most use an 80 but some get by with a 50 as long as it has a good drag washer.

    just an idea

    Bird,

instead of having the swivel at the end, why not have another spliced loop? that way you can loop to loop any new leader that you want. and you dont have to worry about the swivel going through the guides.

just a thought I had - they look really nice.

I tried a Penn 70vs with a #16 Old salty planer at 7 knots. It barely works. There is very little drag range and it just has free spool.

Granted, its at 7 knots, which we use for Yellowfin.

At bluefin speeds it would probably work fine.

The loop end would be very easy to do. I was just thinking the swivel would be easier for those that do not have the means to build a wind-on if they damage the attached on. Thanks for the input.

Try picking up an 80 off ebay. This way you can just replace the drag washer. Also spool the reel half full this should help some.
