    Yellowstone, fish, neighbors and such

    Well, Gee. Yellowstone as part of our “shallow water world”? Just back from nine days there, fishing the Madison, the Lamar, the Yellowstone, Slough Creek, Soda Butte Creek, and I think, the Gardiner and possibly another small creek. Whew! Anything that you have ever seen or heard is probably accurate and no camera can catch it all. Next trip would be for two weeks so I could view some splendor other than fish. ……..each stream is different and calls for changes in technique. I fished everything from large weighted streamers on 1X (Madison River) to #22 Blue Winged Olives on 6X on 12-15ft flouro leaders (see Slough Creek Challenge).

    Capt. Lee, you won’t have to pick me up in New Orleans……once I estimated the drift time from the Yellowstone River to the Missouri and on down the Mississippi, I might have missed easily two albie seasons. I opted for the plane flight home. Please send money to help cover my ticket……of course, my “guide services” in Yellowstone next season would come to you at no cost…….haahahaha. {I’d still be in the “Owe Column”}

    Most neighbors treated us with total disregard

    Tossing large weighted streamers for browns was fun, but unproductive….no matter.

    Chunky hot Yellowstone Cutthroats in skinny (oh, sorry...”shallow water”) were special

    Some waters were definitely headed “downhill”, with spectacular canyons and gorges such as this shot from the Lamar River Gorge. Tough fishin’, equally tough fish.

    Flatland meadows brought on a new set of “neighbors”…..one moved me off “my spot” on a stream……not aggressive, mind you; but neither are slow moving locomotives.

    Slough Creek can present unusual challenges with crystalline slow water at times calling for long casts, long leaders, some skill and a great deal of patience.

    This stunningly colored CutBow (combo Cutthroat/Rainbow), 21-22in represents a best catch……..though much larger (and smarter) fish were present, and cast to often.

    No numbers of photos could ever fufill fishing in Yellowstone…..aw shucks, one more

    Just “getting away” to splendid places, is a very fine thing to do. Thanks ya’ll, JimBob
