After looking at the last couple of posts, I've decided to buy a fly rod. I've decided on a Lamson Velocity reel.
My question is which wt.? target species will be shad in the spring and puppy drum, specks and flounder the rest of the time. I'm leaning towards a 7 wt. but some have said this might be a litle light for the inshore marshes (red drum, stripers, trout, flounder etc.). thanks for your replys in advance.
Im no pro but I bought an 8 as my first and it feels like its a good all around that could handle some big albies and reds if need be. If I could have another Id probably get a 7 for most red fishing and trout inshore.
im not a pro either when it comes to fly by any means of the word, but i have a lamson velocity and i think the reel is great. i have a 8/9wt rod, and i think its a little bit heavy for pups/trout/flounder etc. sweet for albies though and a little bit bigger stuff in the ocean i guess.

As a salt water guide, 7wt is the lightest in my boat. 9wt is my all around rod, 10wt is good for Albies, just how I do it. Why the heaver rods, Wind!!! The hardwe the wind, the more I want my bigger rods.
7 & 8wt rods are great for Trout and Drum but when you nee to punch through the wind, a tip flex 9wt will do the job very well.
In the post I made, FishOn used my Colton 7wt and it does kick a$$ and take names for a small rod. Colton Rods
These are the rods and reels that I use for my charters as well as what I prefer and for what it is worth, I took the picture at the top of the reel page... I was shocked when I saw it...thanks Bob
